    An honest review

I stayed at the Briz hotel for 6 nights (all inclusive) with my teenage daughter. We arrived at 3.30am and check in was fine. We were surprised to be given a key for a room, not an electronic card, old school! The doors are noisy opening and closing them. Our room was pleasant, we were located on the third floor with a view over the pool and the sea. The room was clean and reasonable comfortable. We had a fridge in the room which turned out to be very useful and air conditioning which wasn't the most amazing unit at giving out cold air, but worked. The bathroom was reasonable, however was more of a wet room than a bathroom. the shower had a shower curtain around it but was reasonably useless as the water got everywhere and once showered the whole floor was wet, not good if the next person just wanted to use the toilet! However the shower itself was decent and functional. Wifi wasn't brilliant, don't rely on it. The pool was nice, quite shaded till about 11am. Some days it was very busy, other days not as much. Not enough sunbeds for all the guests but didn't seem to be too much of a problem. Nicest thing about this hotel was there was no mad rush in the morning to save a sunbed! Early morning sun people should sit on the smaller side of the pool nearer the children's pool. The only downside to this hotel for us was the all inclusive. I enjoyed the food although breakfast was the same every day but ok. Other meals were nice, I enjoyed them, however was more Bulgarian food, no chips in sight!! This was great for me but my daughter didn't enjoy this too much. The biggest disappointment was the All-inclusive drinks! You could get beer, wine, vodka and schnapps (no mixer to go with them) or squash. No water (only tap which my delicate stomach would not tollerate) or fizzy drinks!! therefore we had to buy these and keep them in our fridge. The only downside to buying big bottles of water was to go and buy them you had to go down a lot of steps (180 if my daughters counting is right) and come back up them again, this gave my thighs a good work out!! There are a lot of supermarkets along the main strip (down the steps) along the sea front and may restaurants that serve mainly meat and chips. Although we were all inclusive a few days we stayed down by the sea for a change. The first day we went to the beach but it was extremely crowded, and when we were there, super wavy (this did calm down later in the week) but after seeing a couple of jellyfish it put me off going in the sea. It didn't put anyone else off or they didn't see them!! We paid for a bed (20lev) by a pool bar which was a lot quieter and had access to the beach. As you go down the steps from the hotel turn right and it is on your left, it also has a massive water inflatable in the back pool, zorbing and a slide, great for kids. to use these facilities it was 22lev per person or 55 for a family for the day, I think beds were included in this. Overall I had a nice stay here, it was only the drinks that let me down, my daughter would say different, drinks and food for her! But she survived on the food. If I went again I would either go B&B or half board depending on price difference, the restaurant on the strip did a full English if that helps. A walk along the strip in the evening is lovely, but again, amazingly busy. What surprised us the most was the lack of brits here! Maybe we didn't go to where they all were but we didn't hear one in our hotel and only heard a couple when out in the evening.

    Cheap, clean, attractive.

The best of this place is the ample, instaworthy pool, the substantial, clean, well-appointed rooms, the gym and ping pong, and the friendly reception staff. On the downside, the food was a bit samey and problematic for a vegetarian. Pasta, cheese pies and yorkshire puddings for breakfast, really? Yet I gobbled them down as I knew there'd be precious little I could eat for lunch and dinner. Lots of salad, and wine. Despite going all-inclusive I actually managed to lose weight on this holiday. When my friend and I went I'm pretty sure we were the only English people there - certainly we didn't hear any other English voices. That suited us fine - no awkward, faux friendly conversations at the poolside or breakfast table. This place seems to be popular with Russians. I learned a lot of Russian tunes which blared daily from the poolside bar. Easy bus ride into beautiful Varna which costs 3 lev, although you will have to fend off the aggressive attentions of taxi drivers, who lurk at bus stops trying to pick up tourists. Golden sands is a long strip of bars, restaurants and tourist shops and not much else, which suited us fine. The sea is incredible, clean and bolshy. I swam every day, riding the waves like a giggly dolphin. For a cheap, cheerful, centrally located hotel, you can't beat the Briz.

The worse holiday in my life !!!

Never ever again !!! The worse holiday ever!!! Absolutely everything was so bad : food , every day the same , with bad smell and very poor quality. I and my toddler son had food poisoning and was vomiting all days ..Recepcionit didnt speak English and was extremely rude!! In the rooms everything was broken: fridge, conditioner, lights .. Towels and toilet paper once per 3 days , everything you have to buy yourself.. Nearest shop and beach 300 steps downstairs... Avoid!Avoid ! Avoid !!!

    Worst hotel ever

Room - where do I begin.... we arrived at the briz hotel the first floor rooms smell and was damp to the point where we couldnt unpack because the clothes and bedding would get damp The room we booked as 2 beds and a chair that folded out in to a bed( not a sofa bed!) it is like sleeping on a brick my back was killing me Staff- at 10 they kick you out of the restaurant and I caught staff drinking after they kicked us out and was working the next morning Food - Ive never seen eaten so many carbs in my life to the point of feeling sluggish and tired everyday for breakfast it was eggs, pasta, natural yogurt thats runny as hell, bread i was lucky I managed to get pancakes for one day Lunch it was the same food chicken, rice, potato, pasta I the same got for dinner as well When we arrived theres as no snacks at all for us to eat even tho it is advertised as they do have snacks The bar is watered down so you cant get drunk at all Restaurant manager is a nice person but thats it

    Fantastic - unexpected surprise.

My friend and i stayed here from 11th June for 7 days. We booked it in April - to be honest we had a tiny budget and Bulgaria was the cheaper option than Spain. I wasnt expecting much and hadnt even heard of Golden Sands. We just needed a complete reset and rest after a bad six months! What an amazing surprise this hotel was. Set in lovely grounds, surrounded by pine trees with glimpses through to the sea this hotel was immaculate. Clean and tidy, the rooms are basic but spacious. Air conditioning comes as standard as does wi-fi. We choose all-inclusive to give us breakfast and lunch and pre-drinks at the very least and werent disappointed. The food was fresh and appetizing. Breakfast was just lovely - cooked eggs and sausages, cold hams and cheese, breads and the Bulgarian speciality fried pastry which is like a cronut! Lunchtime brought gorgeous salads, always 2 hot meats and potatoes or rice and much more. The only reason we ate out was because we got a little bored of the scenery and wanted a sea-view. The only complaint was the drinks on the all inclusive - you had beer, white or red wine and vodka.. no mixers or cocktails. We got round this by asking the (very smiley and happy) barman at the pool bar to put the vodka in the cordial on draught which tastes like cranberry... It was more vodka than cordial! We weren't complaining. :) Getting to the beach and the stunning promenade is down steps. They are fairly steep - so do be aware of this. We enjoyed the exercise but i am sure many might not. Golden Sands is a lovely resort. We stayed clear of the 'magaluf' bit which was towards the end of the prom.. and its worth noting the further down you walk the more expensive drinks become. We drank cocktails for 4lev (£2.30ish) at The White Lady every night and watched the sunset and people watched. This was one of the nicest holidays i have ever had - i have been on cheap all inclusives before which were more concentration camp than holiday resort - so this was a fantastic surprise. I would definitely go back, not only to the hotel but the resort too. Just lovely.
