    Nice, cheap service apartment

My mom's friend had recommended this service apartment after her friends had stayed there previously. She had made reservations for us, so I am not sure how easy it is to reserve online or by calling. Their number is [--]. We ended up getting a regular room for $498 RMB that included 2 queen sized beds (for 3 people). Basically, the service apartment provides a clean room with the usual amenities - TV (about 60+ channels, mostly Chinese, but has CNN, Discovery Channel, and a couple movie channels), hairdryer, body soap and shampoo, your own bathroom (decent size, although the water from the sink tends to splash out a lot), along with a kitchenette- mini-sized fridge, electric stove, hot water heater. Beware as the wall between the bedroom and bath has a huge window that can look in and out, but there's a curtain on the bedroom side so that you have more privacy when showering. The beds are hard, like most Asian countries. They provide bottled water for free (2 per day), but coffee and tea are extra charge. Full set of towels, room cleaning daily. High speed internet, but you need your own laptop for the DSL connection. Safe deposit in the closet. Bathrobes and slippers provided. Lobby is pretty basic - some chairs and front desk check in. I'm not sure how fluent they are in English, as I speak Chinese. They have maps for $10 RMB ~ $1.50, but it's all in Chinese. No weight scale, in case you want to weigh your luggage. They do not exchange money. They were pretty responsive when we asked for more towels and toilette paper (they're really small rolls, so runs out quickly). Check out is 12 noon, but you can store your luggage all day, or even overnight. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but the hotel sits right above/next to a mall where there are a few Chinese fastfood restaurants (noodles, rice) as well as KFC (a little different from the US), Papa John's and Starbucks. There's also a fruit vendor across the street. There is a Subway stop through the underground mall - Lao Shan Guan Road #2 Line. It's about a 3 minute walk. Takes about 30 minutes to get to Nanjing Dong Lu on the subway and costs $4RMB. Overall it was a nice stay. A little further from the city than I usually like to be, although the subway was very convenient. It would have been nice to have a gym to work out at, but how much time do you have during vacation to work out anyway?

Good location, bad service, very poor beds

The good part about the stay was the location, just above a metro station and very close to shops and restaurants. The rooms were clean and well appointed but very small. Cabel Tv included BBC in English and the room also had free wired internet. The room was quite small and the arm chair was wedged between the bed and the bathroom door so the door would only open partially. If we wanted to open it fully, we had to move the arm chair to the centre of the room. This was an issue as we had a small baby with us and free access to the bathroom was needed. When asked for another room, we were told that it wasnt available. Also, the main reason we had booked a service apartment instead of a hotel room was due to access to kitchen. I am a vegetarian and wanted to cook in case I did not find anything appropriate to eat outside. Also with a small baby, I needed a hob to sterlize his bottles and also to make some baby food for him. The room had a functional fridge and a kettle but the hob was disconnected. It took us a while to get our message accross to the hotel staff that we neeed the hob or in case that wasnt possible, at least a microwave. We were told that due to health and safety issues, they could not provode us anything. It was really disappointing for us as we needed to sterilize bottles and if we had to stay in a hotel room we could have chosen any other location closer to Nanjing road. The hotel staff didnt spaek any English and most of our communication was by drawing on a piece of paper or finding someone on the street who could speak English and write a message in Chinese that we could show the hotel staff. The beds were extremely hard and all mornings we woke up with a back ache

value for appartment ok, service none

spaciuos and unfortunately worn down appartments. i don't think anybody would like to use the kitchen equipments...but to cool some drinks it is enough. the building is really elderly and for china that is an issue...it just doesn't feel really comfortable. bed chinese hard and big old tv...but, it is value for money when comparing other choices in that area.

    Value for money, bad service

Stayed around 10 days in this service apartment. Location is actually good, next to Lousanguan Rd metro station, in metro line 2 in Shanghai. A lot of eateries around this service apartment. The room is quite spacious with a standard service apartment equipment like fridge, a sofa. No cooking utensils. The bed is very bad, it is very hard and not convenient. TV has international channel such as CNN and BBC but very bad reception. Free broadband internet. If you are a foreigner and do not speak Mandarin at all, it will be very difficult to stay in this hotel because the receptionists and the hotel staff do not speak English, only a little English and you will have language barriers speaking to them. If you do speak Mandarin, then this service apartment might be off interest, because it is value for money and the location is great, only if you don't mind sleeping in a hard bed.
