    Beautiful location in Tuscany

Our family of 5 stayed here in July. The location is stunning, in beautiful quiet valley. We stayed in the Fantoria appartments which overlooked the pool. The accommodation is old and rustic, which is both charming but basic. In 35' heat you could do with fans or aircon. Also its odd that you need to rent bath towels - would expect these to be provided. The local town has a great train service to Florence, a car is essential for other locations. There are some nice restaurants is Rosano and Pontassieve, which the reception will book for you, but most close on Mon/Tues.

One the best family times we had. 2 adults + 2 kids (12 and 14)

Castiglionchio makes for a great place to explore Tuscany, either in the immediate surroundings or as day trips. You can walk/hike through the vineyards that cover the rolling hills embracing the castle, surprising you with views of the little valleys or of the houses dotted around. We drove a little further up the road into the mountains behind Castiglionchio, towards a monastery that is set on top of a mountain there, overlooking Florence. We played tennis and ping pong almost every evening with the kids. The kids spent a lot of time in the pool. They offer dinner and wine tasting twice a week. Great food and also with pasta for celiacs... That was wonderful. When I need to check my emails I went to the wifi area close to the reception. far from the reception the connection is not that great, which I do not mind, I do not go to Tuscany to be online all the time. The staff is nice and helpful. The apartments are very charming. The beds are very comfortable. You can tell that the place has been built with care. We would definitely recommend this place and we would like to go back again with our extended family.

    neglected, needs some work

We have spend our last 2 summer holidays in Rignano (other accomodation) and know our way around, so when I had the oportunity to book this place on a last minute price, we didn't think twice and booked for the first week in October. Parking close to the apartment was difficult as there is not enough space for 1car/apartment, so you have to be lucky to get a spot after a day out (this is in October, when 50% of the apartments was empty). The apartment has a lot of potential; the accomodation is very basic, which is OK and suits the fattoria. There is a nice rood terrace and a big upstairs bedroom. However, it needs soms work. Small things, like cleaning (we had to wash the fridge before usage, the floor was dirty, ...) or new bedding (there were holes in the double bed bedding). The apartment is very noisy, every sound from neighbours you can hear: running kitchen tab, moving chairs, conversations could easily be followed. But most of all I was underimpressed by the green water in the swimmingpool and the trampolines with big holes in the play area. Not just unacceptable but dangerous. You can imagine the dissapointment of our 3year old when she was not allowed to jump on the trampolines!

    Needs updates.

When we first arrived we thought we came to a shut down place. Saw no one, heard nothing. The patio was full of leaves and with dirty plastic chairs. Found the reseption, a Nice lady who spoke fluent English helped us. We had an appartment for 2 families. The appartment is nice, old builing with charm. BUT it is alloved to clean before the guest arrives. Under the bed it was full of dust, the same in the corners in the bathroom. It was VERY warm, no AC and no fans, the latter could should have been provided. Lots of mosquitos in the room at night because of open windows, still quite warm. Restaurant not open, ordered breakfast the first morning. Was delivered from down town, croissant and bread, jam and butter in small one portion plastic packets!! One small juice bottle each. Not Worth 8 Euro, the worst breakfast we had in Italy so far. Ordered take away pizza which was very good. Sat outside, but had to clean the PLASTIC Chairs first!! The pool was fine. But all the Place needs to be taken care of, I know its very old, but still someone can brush away leaves and clean tables and Chairs outside. We had an Electric car, the had charging station for differen EL cars, which was great. They produce wine, olive oil and honey. Do not know from were, the grape we saw Close to the Place were not taken well care of! Bought one bottle of wine the first evening, had a big headace next day. Olive oil and honey was very good. Short trip to Florence. The women in the reseption was all very helpful. But sorry, we will not come back.

Again a lovely location, but looking very tired now

Been a while since we have been back to Castlionchi, But, and it is with a very heavy heart that I may have to try somewhere else now. I feel time has moved on a little in terms of what to expect from a accommodation, we have stayed in various parts of the farm and there seems to be a consistent trend in most apartments. They are just looking very tired now, and yes I get the rustic appeal, but there is rustic and there is just scruffy and un-loved. The interiors are very dated and yes some may say it's all in the charm, but it really isn't, it's a shame as with a few nice touches and modernization you can still keep the rustic charms but have a clean and slick/basic accommodation. The TV's are still so very old, I mentioned this in my past post three years ago, many people of an evening spend time in the apartments watching TV, preparing meals, entertaining the kids, for so little money these days to upgrade a TV set. Finding cobwebs, and dust that has been here for a long time is disheartening and never nice. I never felt it was an issue all them times I have been in the past, but I really feel I need to raise this now, Castlionchi has such a good chilled vibe and little things like this need to be addressed to the management if they are not aware, as it has so much potential, just feels neglected. On a positive note, the staff are utterly brilliant and so very charming, they will do everything you ask and are friendly and courteous, so I don't like being negative at all but I really feel I needed to mention this. Thanks Castlionchi for all your memories, but for myself and my family I think it is time to try somewhere else, I hope the issues raised will be of use to work with.
