We visited this hotel for my mums 60th birthday celebrations. We were sold this holiday through thompsons as a 5* hotel and were sold a two bedroom apartment! Non of this was true. We contacted the hotel 3 and 2 weeks before we travelled to inform them of mine and my daughter food allergies and we were informed they would and do cater for all food intolerances and the ingredients are all written out. When we arrived all seemed well until we went to get our lunch! No gluten free foods on show and no one to talk to to see if they have any, plus no dairy free either! So my daughter and I ate chicken and chips! To anyone who has been to this hotel out will know that the food ranges a lot wider than this! We left it until the next day to speak to the manager and he reassured us something would be sorted and he would contact us to let us know! Nothing. We were shooed away from getting a drink at the restaurant at 8am in the morning by the cleaners when there was no kettle in our rooms to make one! And as we were all inclusive why should we have to go to the shop and buy it. We then spoke to the thompsons Rep on Monday and he told us to speak to JJ the customer relations man! He told me to get into a taxi and go and buy my daughter dairy free foods! We paid £4600 for this holiday which it took us 15 months to pay it! Why should I be paying for more food when we were informed we would be fine! I'd of packed foods for her had I of known! The children around the pool were all eating pancakes, waffles ice cream etc and she had nothing! We are gutted this holiday for us was sold to us on a lie. Our eldest daughter has just finished her GCSEs and this was the break she needed. Our younger daughter has the dairy intollerance along with some other problems and this holiday was a very anxious time for us. Unfortunatly I would not recommend this hotel. But the food was what made it like that for us as a family!

    Exceeded all expectations!

We had a fantastic time at this resort as a family of six - 2 adults and 4 kids ranging in ages from 9-16years. From the moment we checked in to when we left, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Our rooms in block B were ready and waiting for us. They were close to eachother, spacious, clean and modern with gorgeous views over the pool and garden. We were initially surprised at the lack of drawers in our room but in the end it didn't bother us. We loved having the separate lounge and found the room comfortable and more than adequate for our needs. We spent time in all three areas although mainly area A. We had read about problems with sunbeds but even on the days when we arrived at the pool after 10am, and it appeared all the beds had been taken, we just asked a lifeguard and they helped us get beds. We did however end up paying the 15 euros a day charge on several days for the Balinese beds which we found to be money well spent. There were several occasions whilst we were there that young children had a poo accident in the pool causing it to be closed for several hours. This was no fault of the hotel who acted quickly every time but it nevertheless was an aggravation. There were lots of daytime activities and entertainment on offer for the kids but as feedback we would recommend the hotel provides some activities where all ages can take part together. These could be simple activities like a game of darts or softball. As a family we wanted to be able to do some activities together but all were restricted by age meaning our 9 year old could not do activities with our 13 year old who could not do actitivies with our 16 year old and so on. Food was always delicious and plentiful. Evening meal did involve a short queue to get in but never longer than about 10minutes. Wasps during lunchtime service were also plentiful. We would suggest the hotel invests in some more electronic fly zapper lights or at least some citronella as the wasps did sometimes spoil a very nice meal! But to be fair we did also get used to the wasps in the end. With six of us we have different tastes but not one of us ever had a meal we didn't like. There was a huge amount of choice and it was delicious. Wine/beer/soft drinks were also always available on tap. We paid the extra for the themed restaurant one or two nights and this also did not disappoint plus made for a pleasant change. The hotel put a lot of effort into the evening entertainment and our kids enjoyed the shows. However, part of a family holiday and the fun for our kids is being able to stay up late. The show finished at 10.30 each night. There was nothing to do after 11pm and by midnight the hotel was dark and deserted. It would've at least helped if they didn't turn all the ceiling lights on for the disco which took place between 11-11.30 as it just felt like a bit of loud music being played for 30minutes while the hotel staff cleared up. One evening we sat in the bar in block c to play cards with the kids and in the middle of our game at 11.30pm they turned all the lights out and left us in pitch blackness (we finished the game using the lights on our phones!). I know the hotel wants to create a tranquil atmosphere past 11pm but they could easily keep a bar open past midnight without it impacting in the guests - and maybe also provide some other entertainment such as open air movie night, paintball or some other weekly event with a later finish. My partner also used the spa facilities which he said were sumptuous and totally relaxing. We also used the adult pool on a couple of occasions and it really was gorgeous and a fabulous break away from the other areas. It was beautiful, quiet and lavish. Felt like a 5* Ibiza retreat. Overall this is a great hotel for families. We had no problems walking between the blocks and we really liked the layout which made the whole area feel like part of a private little town. The beach was close by and perfect. We loved the optional safes provided on the umbrellas for your belongings. The staff at this hotel are what help make it what it is. They were always helpful and friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble - even the late check out which they arranged for us (for a small extra charge). Overall we had a fantastic time here and any minor issues were just that compared to all the great things this hotel has to offer. We would highly recommend this hotel to others.

All-Inclusive - some ups and downs

The Insotel Cala Mandia Resort and Spa is a typical all you can eat / all inclusive Hotel. We had a good time there but I think I will not come again. Pros: The staff there is great, always friendly and forward-looking. Good and nice people, you feel welcome there. They clean fast - and as there are many families and children theres always dirt - but also always someone to take care of. Close access to the beach, the pools are nice. Enough space around the pools to lay you down. Beverages are fresh and of high quality. Varying choices in the restaurants - you find always something to eat. Cons: The themed restaurants are not really worth a visit. The surf is ok, but only for one visit as you get comparable food to the main restaurant - but with limited choice. The good side is - you have less noise as this is quite relaxed. The 50s restaurant is a joke, I guess the guy who cooks there is a vegan America hating person, as the food there has nothing to do with an American diner. The milkshake is good, the rest is of poor quality. The Hamburger patties have a consistency as someone has tried to make diamonds out of beef - they are so hard and compressed. The buns are supermarket ones... the Caesar salad is a tasteless joke. The dressing appears to be frozen, the wrong cheese and absolutely tasteless. Caesar would have chosen to be stabbed again rather eating that... The main restaurants differs from day to day. During our first days the breakfast was in the smaller restaurant on the right side. It was crowded but ok, good choice, but very unorganized. If you want to mix up some good cereals you have to go hunting through out the whole restaurant, as all components are distributed. On our last day the breakfast was in the big main restaurant, the small one was closed. It was not a nice experience, more than a Black Friday sale opening. With crying kids... Many British people there, also the food was quite British. You have to search for the local goodies, baked beans and fried stuff is everywhere. Yuck - I hope the Brexit will sort this a bit out. I dont understand why I drive into holiday and then eat my local stuff... At the end, it was good, but sometimes to much people. The food was disappointing. I guess a nice hotel with breakfast would have been a better choice for us, as the food outside is fantastic!

    Family Vacation

Really nice Hotel little above the beach of Cala Mandia. It has 5 pools of which we have tested 2 already. For the Kids there is lot for them to do. Insy Splash Waterpark, 2 playgrounds and 2-3 Kids/Babypools. In the Main Restaurant there is a lot of good food, everytime freshly made and really tasty.
