    Amazing island

The most beautiful beach I have ever been. Relaxing stay. You forget the world when you stay in one of these villas. There are two restaurants, spa, tennis court, friendly staff, beautifully planned island.

    Complete BLISS

So many thoughts, but some things cannot be put in words...staying at this paradise is one of them. Just do yourself a favour, save the money and GO!! The staff are all EXCEPTIONAL! Including the F&B Director Vincent, who made sure my stay was nothing short of AMAZING by exceeding expectations. EVERY single staff member was attentive, lovely and passionate about their role. The F&B team, Jesun, Louis, Liz, Hassan, Venezuelan female, Mauritian female, Moroccan male(clearly a diverse group of staff), all made a positive impact during my stay. The spa team of Jangi(?), Karma, Esther and the lovely lady from Bali were all fantastic. The bellboys, the housekeepers and just everyone was amazing. Sonia and Jim at the airport were great with our checkin, especially Sonia with ensuring we didn't miss our connecting flight on our way back to Mahe! I am already hoping to come back to this paradise. Also to explore the island by bicycle, is a real treat!

We cant wait to come back

Amazing resort on a unique and private island. Excellent private pool villas, great food and super friendly staff. The island pace is great to unwind from a stressful job and seeing some of the giant tortoise in the wild is an experience to never forget. My only comment is that the internet is so slow it is pretty much useless, which I dont think you should fix but at least let people know so they can prepare for some digital detox. We were really sad to go after our 10 night stay and we cant wait to come back!

As a 1st time Visitor to a Four Season Resort & at these prices, my expectations were sky-high

and I still rated it as EXCELLENT. They surpassed every single benchmark & by some margin - even on their drinks prices and those by a huge margin. Ouch !! We are 1/2 Board (Breakfast & Dinner) for 6 x nights in a Beach Bungalow. We have a huge bedroom, with four-poster bed draped in mosquito nets, dressers, wardrobes, desk, chairs and a lounge with Cable & Satellite TV (a true Americana selection), a sound bar, in-room safe (big enough for laptops etc), fridge, mini-bar, handmade gourmet Petit-Fours, telephone, tea-coffee facilities, hairdryer etc - the lists goes on. There is also an enormous en-suite bathroom,. with stand-alone bath, separate shower, twin sinks, a 2nd outside (twin) shower in an enclosed mini-garden, with enough space to hang clothes up to dry, & discretely. Fabulous fluffy Towels, Bathrobes & Slippers finish it off. This is NO Bungalow - this is a Suite & I am loving it. And then there's the patio with comfy chairs and loungers, our own pool (8' x 20' so not terribly big , but it is ours & very private), a sml garden of grass leading to a strategically placed outside shower just off the beach beside a wooden walkway and steps to the beach itself. It may not be your own private beach, but it sure felt like it - and looked it too. We also have 2 x Bikes beside our front-door. You see at the Fours Seasons Resort on Desroches Island, you are the ONLY Resort or Hotel on the Island, and its not that big - 5/6 Kms end-to-end and only 2Kms wide. Cycle, walk, or call and they come and collect and take you. On 2 x Evenings, we did exactly that due to a nasty Storm. In 5/6 days we averaged 12Kms, so it did wonders for our fitness. The resort has 2 restaurants, a swimming pool, retail boutique, deli & bar, a yoga pavilion, spa/wellness centre, fitness centre (aka Gym, which we thought was excellent) & a tennis court (floodlit both rackets & balls available). The Castaway Centre has a bar and volleyball court. Activities included diving, sea fishing (Blue Safari Team - incredibly expensive in my opinion), snorkeling (we had brought our won gear), paddle boarding, kayaking & petanque. Breakfast was superb - service, quality, quantity, presentation - a la carte or buffet or a combination. Exotic fresh fruit that I have not encountered on a buffet-table for years, and it's all flown in. Dinner was superb too - our favourite was in the Lighthouse, but on both occasions Mother Nature interfered & al fresco was out of the question. They switched from one to the other in seconds. Hugely professional. Scattered around the Island were a series of Beach Huts - each had a Restroom (proper one, and clean and maintained), a cooler with iced water bottles, extra spare beach towels, kayaks, paddle boards, paddles & Life Jackets, and a Radio in case of Emergencies. You had no need to go to the beach like a Pack Horse. Used Towels were left in a basket for their collection later. We were really unlucky with the weather - flying out in a filthy storm and had 2 further days disrupted by very high winds and storms (rough seas too). Perhaps early March was not a good decision later would be better, even if there are no Guarantees. Taking responsibility for your own personal safety in this environment /waters is essential / mandatory. A serious highlight for me on this Island was the Birdlife, despite the weather, but pride of place goes to George - the oldest and heaviest surviving male Aldabra Tortoise on the Island. He is very friendly, loves being fed and petted - scratching his neck under his chin is a winner every time. He also likes to wrestle. Beware - he has never lost, and weighs in at around 500+ lbs - No scales now exist on the Island, that are big enough to ratify this. I have waxed lyrical about this place and been unashamedly OTT, so what was the negative. There has to be one afterall. Here it is - Prices for Food (1/2 Board was The Right Decision) and for Drinks - any (Water, Softs, Beers, Wines or Spirits) are exorbitant, by any yardstick. Here are some examples (see Images) Tonic £5.70, sml Can of Heineken £13.90, ½ Bottle of Veuve Cliquot Champers £125, a Gin £227 (they only sell by the Bottle & you are deemed to have drunk the bottle. Forewarned is Forearmed I had been give the tip. Come prepared Duty Free Shopping and Supermarkets can be quite worthwhile detours. Always complying with the prevailing Legislation (available via Google), of course. NB. We were there pre-Covid-19 in March 2020 We will return one-day, properly prepared and once we have saved enough.
