Best advice is stay at Best Western next door

Top tip.... Best Western next door is only fractionally more expensive and is seemingly 100 times better in standard. However, if you DO want to stay here, this is my review.... We chose this hotel mainly down to the quirky design of the place!! This is just an extravagant fascade. Behind the exterior extravagance, this is a shabby, really budget hotel. We are seasoned travellers used to staying in really basic hotels and this was definitely that, but with a price more 'mid range' for the area. At check in was told breakfast was included. After first breakfast, we were chased out of restaurant asking us to pay for the meal as it wasn't actually included and cost 150k more! We had only had toast and coffee so disputed this saying we had been told it was included! Saying that, they didn't end up charging us for it. Our room was 117. It was downstairs in a dark and scruffy corridor, past beds stored, dirty plates etc that sat there for days. There was a large window but it looked directly onto another bedroom and you were so underground, the little outside space gave no indication to the outside conditions - no idea if it were sunny or raining. The bathroom stank of sewage that wasn't ours. After a day out of the room you were greeted back with a terrible smell. On a positive side, the shower had good pressure! The internet in the hotel was a joke. Each room had their own network connection. Only problem was that inside the room itself, the poor connection was non existent if you weren't pressed against your front door, as the router is in the corridor. This made onward planning quite challenging over WiFi as most of it had to happen loitering outside the room! The last night we decided to eat in the hotel in the extravagantly named Cleopatra restaurant. Being pescetarinans, we struggle to find meals with no meat, so we opted for French fries to start as a safe option while we set out to translate their menu online using the sketchy Wi-Fi. The gaggle of waiting staff loitering around doing started howling with laughter at our choice in a really insulting fashion. Not prepared to be insulted, I translated a sentence explaining we don't eat meat and are struggling to find anything to eat. We were proudly presented a 'vegetarian menu' which on closer translation included chicken, beef, shrimp, sausage dishes. Anything but vegetarian meals. We don't mind being laughed at if we do something silly, but considering their 'vegetarian menu' was the laughable part, this was annoying! As mentioned at the start, I would highly recommend not staying here as for the small amount of money more with a rate that includes breakfast, go check in to the BW OJ next door, where they have a swimming pool and an awesome skybar with sunsets over the mountains beyond.

Good choice for low budget with bathub inside

The hotel building has its own characteristics chas and has a lobby and a beautiful dining room . the only hotel that provides a bathtub facilities at an affordable price . Other hotels with the same price only provide shower . city center location that makes it easy to go anywhere either by private vehicle or public transportation . I definitely go back again if stopped by the poor . low price for a good hotel . breakfast is also delicious tasty

    Okay and cheap

Very impressive entrance to the hotel, reminded me of the 'Munsters' house. Inside is quite nice and restaurant is not too bad. Not many choices for breakfast unfortunately. The room was okay, a little worn but clean.

    Surprisingly good, reasonable price

The staff : They are very friendly and welcoming, the bellboy knew what need to carry from our luggage just right after check in, and they are kind. Really nice The room : Surprisingly good, i order superior (room 307) with twin bed, the accent of malang's ornaments really add to it's value, unfortunately the refrigerator a bit damaged since it placed inside a desk cabinet. There are many lamps, even in the front of mirror. The beds.... Really comfy, they give us very thick blanket and i think it's good since malang were cold for outsider, especially people from big city. And our bathroom come with bathub, which isn't very common to get with this price mostly Things that i concerned : 1. air conditioner don't have remote, instead they use switch and rotary panel fixed at wall, i don't know it's a plus value for classic accent for the room or just what it be 2. Hot water didn't feel hot at all even at max, warm yes, hot no 3. Is there no escalator nor lift in this hotel? Our bell boy took path use stairs, since we were exhausted after long road trip and need to relax right away

    Interesting business model

Surfed the interwebs for a hotel in Malang for 4 nights. Found this hotel. Looked good from the reviews and pictures. Prices on Agoda and the like around 325K ish. Took a cab to the hotel. One room type only...the Superior for a measly 750K. I can imagine a slight price difference with the booking sites, but more than 200%? I asked for a discount for 4 days. She wouldnt budge on the price. I asked to be shown the room first. Its a richly furnished hotel but it cant hide the fact the ceiling of the room itself was low, making the rooms dark and gloomy. When I checked the view from the window, it was looking straight at the airco on a neighbouring wall just 2 feet away... Are you having a laugh? I smiled politely and just walked away. I dont care how many free snacks you provide. Outside I passed the illuminated LED banner sign. It said Superior room 450K... One month later I found myself in Malang again. The sign still says the same thing. Time and time again Im baffled by the Indonesian business model, revolving around the notion to make a quick and easy buck, instead of developing a trusting relationship with a potential returning customer.
