  Lovely location

  I picked this hotel due to the location as I traveled down from Lapland into Finland, the room was very nice and comfortable - just wish I had been given a room of the lake and not the carpark. I ate my meal there, the service was good and it was lovely to eat out on the deck, the food was nice. There was a good breakfast in the morning, with lots of choice.

  Lovely staff, fresh and cosy hotel

  After a disappointing Airbnb booking we googled the nearest hotel and ended up at the Grand Arctic. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms newly renovated and decorated. Very comfortable beds and a good sized bathroom. The view over the Kalix river is magnificent. Breakfast was simple for Swedish standards but had everything (bread, eggs, bacon, yoghurt, fruit).

  Excellent location, clean rooms

  Receptionist was friendly and helpful. The layout of the hotel is quite grand for this area, with a nicely camouflaged lift. Beds were very good, and bug screens were installed (!), so we could sleep with open windows without having mosquitoes feast on our bare body parts. Drawback was the restaurant was closed in summer time and there was 40 km for the next one to serve native food. We were pointed to the only (pizza/kebab/burger/taco) place in town serviing food in the evening, and even they were closing when we arrived at 19.45. Anyway, they were friendly and gave us food, so that we did not go to bed hungry.

  Absolutely inkompetent personal

  Wanted to Book spa they have forget about our booking, it has been my birthday and i have booked spa 3 weeks earlier. Same day i want to confirm my reservation did i get the information that they booked wrong time and we would have to wait 2 hours. So my birthday surprise was spoiled

  A gem in a small town

  I arrived late into Overkalix without a reservation in early March and the hotel was locked! After a quick phone call a very nice lady came out from her home opened up the hotel and made a room available, My fears of having to either sleep in the car or continue driving in the snow after dark were erased and I had a restful night. The hotel is unusual and with huge character. The room I had on the second floor was a little old fashioned but very clean and pleasant and whilst I only saw it in the dark looks like being well sited with nice views.
