    Good value for the money

The family hotel is located along the main road leading to the town of Alexandroupoli. The rooms are clean with all the basic essentials. The reception guy was friendly and helpful speaking good English. They serve only drinks and frappe or coffee there but there are a lot of pubs in the neighbourhood. The beach is not more than a 5-minute walk from the hotel.

Quite possibly the worst hotel ever, both for obvious and not obvious reasons

We were driving back to Turkey from Greece and got tired on the way. So we thought it would be a good idea to sleep in a hotel for couple of hours before passing the border and being involved in the heavy traffic of Istanbul. Since we just need a bed to sleep and didn't have plans for staying overnight we searched for a cheap hotel. We had entered couple of hotels asking the price and explaining the situation and at Hotel Hili the receptionist told us the room price was 15 euros. Well, it sounded like a surprising price for the August but when you consider it's a two star old hotel by the main road it kind of made sense. And when we entered the room and saw the poor conditions like the tiny, dark bathroom, the shower without doors just next to the toilet and broken tiles, old carpets, furniture, bed linens etc. it perfectly made sense. Sleeping couple of hours and paying 15 euros was OK. But when we were checking out, another receptionist this time, we were asked to pay 50 euros. We were just shocked. We asked him again and explained the situation but he said the other receptionist's English is bad and that she must have mixed "15" and "50". And told us to pay 50 euros. We kindly asked him to call the lady and asked her about the situation but he refused to call her and started yelling at us. We tried to negotiate and told him we didn't receive any service, we weren't staying over night and won't be having the breakfast. Mainly her bad English was not our fault. We asked to pay at least the half price but he didn't listen a word. We told him this was not the way to handle a situation like this but he kept shouting and told us he was in the business for 25 years. We told him that over this 25 years he had learned nothing about the customer relations and paid the 50 euros and left the hotel. I have stayed in many hotels over the years this is the second hotel I had such terrible experience. There is this question in my mind left behind was this a set-up to hook people and put them in this awkward situation. Anyway I will never learn the answer of this question but for 50 euros I have stayed in great places in Greece and this was definitely not one of them. Stay away!

Poor conditions, only for people who can live with basics

Old-fashioned hotel, with poor services and poor condition of the room. The toilet had a shower with no doors and water would go all over the place, creating a very bad situation on the floor. The price was pretty high for what the hotel could offer; 50 euros for bed without breakfast. I would definetely say that it is not worth the money. About 6 km from the center of Alexandroupoli, very near the university hospital.

No Problems, but not the Ritz.

Whilst no one will say this is the best hotel in the world(reading previous reviews), it does what it say's on the tin. We were traveling from Izmir, Turkey to Patras, Greece to catch a ferry to Italy. Travelling with 2 cars and 3 cats, we needed a pet friendly hotel with private parking not too far from the border. This was the hotel. Is it the Ritz.......no. But it was very clean, staff were very helpful and the breakfast plentiful. We have stayed in 4/5 star hotels were the staff were not as friendly and the cleanliness not as good. Is the room perfect, no.....but it was clean, and that's all that we wanted. If I was doing the same journey again, I would stay here again. Many thanks to the owners for being very helpful and accommodating.
