    Beautiful Renovation

We have stayed here on a number of times over the last few years shuttling our son back and forth to BU. The hotel staff was always wonderful and if something was ever wrong, it was corrected with never a question. The only negative was the hotel was not updated in a long time. The rooms were worn, restaurant and bar area were not welcoming, deco was old. That has all changed now and the place is beautiful. We stayed in the King room and it was larger than most suites. Kitchen area, living space, and bedroom all updated with new furniture, paint and deco, including what appears to be some reconfiguration of the rooms. We havent been there in a while but were very pleased with the updates. Traveling in the age of COVID is a bit different now and I look for a few key things to make me feel more comfortable. Lots of hand sanitizer, staff diligently wearing masks and gloves where necessary, and people visibly cleaning. All three were checked off the list and was extra happy to see the rooms tagged with stickers that you removed when entering the room that said the room has been deeply cleaned and sanitized. You need to place a lot of trust in the staff and management team, but it does add just another level of confidence seeing this and can only hope the staff is equally concerned about working in a safe and clean environment. Happy to see the place revitalized and it was a very pleasant and enjoyable weekend in a very comfortable and beautiful room.

COVID Stay - Great Deal but Poor Room Allocation

We are Platinum IHG members who booked a King Leisure Nonsmoking for 2 people for 12,500 points (appx $49 value) about 3 days in advance during all this coronavirus craziness. I think 3 things are critical to a hotel stay so always prioritize reviewing the property location, a good night's rest, and a good morning shower: LOCATION: 4.5/5. Located in downtown Binghamton near the university and other local stuff (didn't wander around so can't comment). For us (hauling kayaks on roof of car) the big bonus was they have a large lighted parking lot in front that is monitored by a guard. It was well lit, we saw the guard, and no issues. I did notice as we were parking that groups of college kids (nearby dorms) also appeared to use this lot and walk to a different building and weren't questioned by the guard so not sure about that arrangement. GOOD SLEEP: 3/5 Comfortable bedding, but considering this whole property was EMPTY (hence our rate) they made the incomprehensible decision to put all the guests right next to each other in rooms. The walls were thin and our neighbors were up and chatting at 7AM and it sounded like they were in our room too. They probably could have put a guest on each floor of the hotel judging by the parking lot, but I guess they did this to make their cleaning staff's job easier? Gee thanks. SHOWER: 4/5 Hot water and good pressure. Average toiletries. Walk in shower with door. Other Comments: - Maybe I just don't appreciate the bustling metropolis that Binghamton normally is (it was dead when we were here), but these were some of the smallest Holiday Inn rooms we have ever stayed in. - No coffee or tea or water in the lobby but there were Keurig machines in the room with supply for 2 total coffees. - No newspaper - Only recognition for Platinum status was 500 complimentary points. Anyhow, they took COVID serious with all the masks and cleaning stations and such, and we got a great deal and this met our purposes.

    Could be better

I was in Binghampton for one night to handle some personal business. The first issue: I arrived at 1:30pm and asked to check in. I've never had an issue checking in early at any hotel chain before. Barbara, who was at the front desk at the time, informed me that there were no rooms and check in is at 3pm in a forceful manner. She stated that housekeeping hadn't released any rooms. That made me concerned about getting a room someone just checked out of. Then my partner, who was standing far away from the front desk was adjusting his mask and she rudely stated that he had to keep it on. Again, he was just adjusting it after wearing it for over 5 hours. So she did not allow us to check in and we had to take our bags to our meeting. Second issue: When I returned after my meeting, I was checked in and given a room on the 6th floor. The room had a sticker that it was cleaned and sanitized. However, I noticed the microwave stand had ketchup stains on it and random smears so I used my own wipes to clean that up. How was that deemed a "clean" room? About 30 minutes later, I promptly packed up and went back to the front desk to be relocated. The guest in the room next to me was extremely loud. I was relocated to the 7th floor. The room had a sticker that it was cleaned and sanitized, just like the first one. Upon entering, I noticed something on the wall near the bed, it was a booger..yes a booger. So disgusting. In a time of a major health crisis, I find it difficult to believe that the room was cleaned and sanitized if this was smeared on the wall. There was also a bottle of nasal spray from a previous guest that apparently fell on the side of the bed near the nightstand. If I saw it, housekeeping should have as well. Who knows how long that was there. I used a tissue to move it to a location they could clearly see. Third issue: loud guests entering and exiting rooms across the hallway at all hours and talking loudly out in the hallway at 3am. They could have definitely spaced out the guests a little more. Since I was there for business, I would have appreciated a clean, quiet and uneventful stay. Unfortunately, I did not have that.
