    Economico y moderno

    Well I never

I am appalled by the stay we had last night. On arrival we checked into our room and had to go back and ask for towels as only one had been placed in the bathroom unless we were expected to share, then our bubble went for a meal in your restaurant and the food was atrocious I am fully aware things are different due to covid but the menu my 11-year-old could have done better. Satay chicken skewers on a bed of salad it was southern fried chicken goujons on a bed of soggy muck, then the mains was even worse fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce. The fish was soggy, the chips were cold and we had to ask 4 times for tartare sauce the chicken burger was the same goujons as the starter the bun was dry then the tikka masala I'm guessing comes from a microwave because it was a bowl of water with chicken in it. Although the mango chutney was ok. The bolognaise I'm sure was a kids portion because that was laughable then it was put in a massive bowl to look pretty 4 spoonfuls and the dinner was gone. Now desserts.... Sticky toffee pudding we had to ask for toffee sauce as it was a dry sponge, the brownie was absolutely solid and could have broken a window. So after getting the bill I thought we had dinner at the ritz £190.20 for meals and a drink I think is awful!!! Now we have gone back to our room and drawn the curtains and considering we are in a pandemic where cleanliness is key... Our curtain were disgusting there was stains and marks like there had been a sex party and someone got it on the curtains. The bed was comfortable, now let's go for breakfast, £12.50 pp for sausages that had been cooked around 6am and left under the hot plate, the food was all dry, my cafetier had been plunged so fast I swallowed more coffee remanence then I did coffee. Also maybe ask the staff to put more sugars on the table then I wouldn't have to keep calling them over asking for more. Kindest regards Sophie Ganner

    Disappointing is an understatement

We decided to have a Christmas get together of sorts with our bubble, fully aware that it was going to be different. Booking in was no problem, however things went down hill after this, we had to ask for more towels as there was only one and I didnt fancy sharing a wet towel with my other half. Understandably there was a limited menu which we thought wouldn't be too bad, how mistaken we were... we had satay chicken for starters (well that's what I thought we ordered) it was 4 southern fried chicken strips on a bed of brown lettuce and a watery sauce that tasted nothing like a satay sauce. We then had our main meal, two friends had fish and chips which was soggy and the chips cold, the bolognese was the highlight of the evening as it looked like a child portion served in the middle of the biggest bowl ever seen, and the chicken curry was obviously a microwave meal as it was mainly water with bits of chicken floating in it. Oh and the southern fried chicken burger consisted of the same chicken strips that we had for starters. Desert was no better the sticky toffee pudding was a dry sponge with no sticky toffee sauce and we had to ask for this. and the chocolate brownie was inedible as it was rock solid. Let's not even bother talking about the dried up tasteless breakfast that really is not worth the £25 that they charged for two people and the meal and drinks was definitely not value for money at £190 for 6 of us. All in all it was only the company of our bubble that made the stay bearable.

    A new low in hospitality

How could this place improve ? Well for a start off a rethink on how food is cooked and served. Tiny and overpriced portions of food that looked and tasted like it had been bought from the reduced section at farm foods. The satay skewers were just weird, southern fried goujons in some kind of brownish sauce. Fish looked like the bottom of a moccasin that some ran over and left out in the rain. bolognese turned up in bowl bigger than the alloys on my car, also seemed to have a lot of grease in the gesture of sauce. I could go on but you see where this is going.... The soulless atmosphere was hardly inviting, and even though we tried to make the best of it, still got a telling off from staff saying we were behaving like naughty school kids ( perhaps that's because we'd just had a school dinner from the 1970's ?). Tight with towels, tea, milk and coffee but receptionist did give us more after asking. Bar staff need retraining as well. Lager top was ordered and they brought a glass of lemonade with about an inch of lager on it. We tried to simplify it a bit so ordered a vodka and lemonade (what could go wrong ?), but again they'd put a shot of vodka in an filled the glass up to very top with lemonade. We declined the kind offer of an upgrade to include breakfast, best £25 we never spent after hearing the comments from our friends. Luckily maccies isn't far away so spent less than £10 there on a veritable feast by comparison. So much potential to be a great hotel, but sadly it needs a bit of a shake up, and perhaps a gentle reminder that a sense of humour goes a very long way with patrons.
