    Good value

This is a no nonsense hotel on the main street coming into town. its an easy 5 minute walk to the cathedral and only a few more minutes to the shops and restaurants. Rooms and bathrooms were clean. Breakfast is extra but good.

    Basic and comfortable

Pleased with our choice of Hotel St Hubert in St Claude. Basic twin room with big bathroom, comfortable beds and plenty of space. Quiet and convenient with a lovely walk to the city centre restaurants and sights. Friendly and helpful staff with good English. Free parking in public carpark in front and free wifi. Best bath towels since we arrived in France a week ago.

    Good breakfast, room was OK

When asking for a room with a view (as there are some great views) specify that you want a good view as not all are good. Typical European hotel, small room, nothing fancy. The breakfast was good and the hotel restaurant was excellent for dinner. Everything was reasonably priced.

    Basic but OK

Basic hotel, you get what you pay for. Turned up in St Claude without a booking and got the last available double room. Very helpful staff, offered to help my husband with cases, as I am disabled. Not a suitable hotel for someone in a wheelchair or unable to climb stairs as there are about eight steps up to the lift, which is too small to accommodate a wheelchair. No ground floor rooms as this is taken up with the bar and restaurant. Our room was on fourth floor overlooking the road, which gets quite busy and noisy early in the morning. The walls are very thin, could hear people talking, using shower and flushing toilet in next room, and were woken by them at 6am! Bed not the most comfortable, but not the worst. Dinner in the restaurant was a disappointment, overpriced and chicken over cooked, but the sauce was tasty. Again, staff very pleasant and spoke to us in English. We didn't rate the local wine. Would not stay again, not just hotel but town appears very run down.

Pleasant, nice view, but hot and noisy

How this hotel got a third star is beyond me. It's a two star hotel at a reasonable price, but lacks the amenities you would expect from a three star. The bathroom was OK but the soap, etc. was generic and the toilet paper dispenser was like something you'd find in a bus station. The room was OK but lacked a safe, refrigerator, coffee maker, and drawers. Wi-Fi was fine. The biggest drawback was the lack of air conditioning. St. Claude is in a little bowl between mountains and gets warmer and more humid than the surrounding towns, so we (and most of the locals) found it uncomfortable warm. The only way to stay cool was to keep the shutters drawn all afternoon, blocking the pleasant view, and then opening the window late in the evening, which let in the noise from the busy street (a departmental highway) directly below the window. Breakfast seemed OK but overpriced. We wound up walking 3-4 minutes to the plaza of the cathedral and had coffee at the bar across the street with pastries from an excellent shop a short way down the road. I might stay here again if we had to be in St. Claude, but not in June, July, or August. We moved out and drove up to Lamoura, a few km away, and stayed at La Spatule, which was more expensive but which we liked a lot better.
