    Hotel especyacular

Un hotel espectacular con muy buena atención. Muy buen restaurante en la planta baja y gran bufett para el desayuno. Zona comercial pegada al hotel. El hotel se encuentra en una zona poca transitada junto al río.

    Golden Ball of Luxury

This is a review that has been a long time waiting. I stayed at the Intercontinental Hangzhou about 2 years ago in February 2018, in the middle of winter. But I still remember my experience til this day, hence the late review. For Tripadvisor's sake, I will say I travelled in Feb 2020. Intercontinental Hangzhou, distinguishable by a huge golden ball (which looks like a bright moon in the night). A symbol of I-don't-know-what, but it looks really cool. Location: Just a stone's throw away from the Civic Centre train station, literally out of the station and you cannot miss it. For the adventurous, just a short walk will take you to a shopping mall, Raffles City Centre, which will remind you of the Raffles City in Singapore. Hotel Lobby: Upon entering the main lobby of the hotel, you will realize that the property is catered more for meetings and conventions. The reception itself is located on a different floor. At the reception level, the breakfast restaurant and a bar is located side by side where one can enjoy a quiet evening of drinks, whilst staring at the unique architecture of the building. Check-In: Took longer than usual as we arrived before check in time. The team was young with quite a few staff on training. Nevertheless, they speak sufficient english to maintain a basic conversation and can help with most issues. Duty Manager Duke was most helpful throughout the process. Room: I was lucky enough to get an upgrade to a Deluxe Riverview room, which had a wide view of the Qiantang River. Being winter, the snowfall gave the surroundings a nice white view. Beds were of Intercontinental Standard. A huge bathroom area! Gym/Pool: The gym and pool were on the top floor of the hotel, next to the club lounge. Gym was well equipped, but during the winter days, there seemed to be a lack of heating. Pool area was heated and given the top floor location, provided great views over the river as well. Club Lounge: We got the club lounge package for 1 night only, which allowed us to enjoy the cocktail and canapes hour in the evening with free flow of alcohol and light bites. Although we probably ate like a full course dinner. Food was excellent and tasty. Alcohol offerings were pretty standard. Service however, was impeccable. When I wanted to make a mojito myself, and realized there weren't any mint leaves at the bar, a staff member went to the kitchen on the reception floor to get a spring of mint, which I then used to make a mojito and chat up the staff at the same time! Great service. Breakfast: Breakfast was also included in the Club Lounge package. Opt to have breakfast at the restaurant instead. Granted that it is more noisy and loud, the offerings at the restaurant are about 3-4x more than at the Club Lounge. But if you like your peace and quiet in the morning, the Club Lounge would be the place for you. There was a good mix of local dishes and international cuisines available, and being winter, we definitely filled our bellies to the brim. Overall: Fantastic property in the heart of Hangzhou. There isn't much to do in the surrounding areas, didn't explore much either due to it being winter. But hey, it's an Intercontinental. Enjoy it!

    Great Architecture, Significant Improvements Needed

This trip took place between 02/20/21 and 02/22/21. Myself and 3 of my lovely family members came to Hangzhou from Shanghai for a family vacation. Because of my Platinum InterContinental Ambassador Membership, we chose to stay at the InterContinental Hotel Hangzhou. This hotel is conveniently located next to the Qian Tang River, along with the Conference Venue of the Hangzhou G20 Summit. You can do anything you would want to do around the area. Upon arrival at the Hotel, I was stunned by the amazing interior and exterior architecture of the sphere-shaped building. My favorite part was the evening lighting, as it blends well with the Golden Design. Prior to this trip, I have booked 2 Premium Twin Bed Rooms through the IHG APP. When checking in, I was directed to the Priority Check- In Area. My mother and my grandmother sat in the seating area whilst tea was served, which was appreciated. Out of no where, I was told that I booked 1 Room for 4 People. I was pretty sure that I booked 2 Rooms. We had to bring in Chief Concierge Staff Member Robin Han to help us with some English translation and further assistance. After further investigation, the other room was separated to another reservation. The female staff at the Priority Desk almost placed me and my 3 family members in 1 room (Maximum Capacity is 3 Persons), despite me saying that I booked 2 rooms for 4 people. Clearly this was a disorganized check-in experience. The total amount of time was double the time it took to check in at my last InterContinental. A total time of 21 Minutes was spent checking us in, which was simply too long. Though to Robins credit, he got both of my rooms upgraded to the same room type with the Qian Tang River View. I also received free membership drinks for everyone, which is also appreciative as only 2 out of 4 of us got a free drink at the previous InterContinental we have visited. We would also like to thank the free bottle of wine and extra fruit plate as compensation, and of course Robin for his diligent service which deserves recognition. Robin was helpful and a great translator throughout the entire check-in process. We were assigned Rooms 1175 & 1177. I was in 1177. There wasnt much information about the hotel room on the hotel website, I did not know what to expect. The room appeared to be large, with a closet room, large bathroom, and bedroom. Although the room was renovated in 2018, there is significant signs that the room is outdated and old with wear and tear. The bathroom door was difficult to slide open and close. I couldnt even lock the bathroom door without shifting the sliding door towards me. The one power outlet next to the two beds werent enough for two guests, and charging my phone took a long time. Flushing the toilet was difficult as well, as used toilet paper kept on sticking to the bowl. Whilst using the Mirror TV in the Bathroom, the mirror TV suddenly made a loud bang. The fuse must have exploded as I wasnt able to turn it back on. I just opted to use the main TV for the rest of my stay. Speaking of the TV, the TV remote instructions for one of the remote control was different to the actual remote used. Whilst the external surfaces windows were clean in 1175, it was not in 1177, despite having a sticker in 1175 saying that there would have a scheduled window cleaning. By the way, what time is it? I look at the clock, and the clock is out of battery. Although the room was nice, big and clean internally with a great view, the room was just not up my expectations due to the constant trouble I had in the many areas of the room. I didnt want to ask change my room, because we had an 84 year old lady with us and changing our room would create extra trouble in terms of moving rooms. These rooms really need some extra renovations, particularly with the power outlets and the bathroom door. Maintainability is key to earning the standards I have seen in the last 10 InterContinental Hotels. The layout of the the room was great, but it will need some extra power outlets, a stronger toilet, a mirror TV in which the fuse would not go off, a better designed door for the bathroom, and of course maintainability to be perfect to the standards I have seen. Breakfast was average. I was concerned about the lack of maintainability of the freshness of the buffet. There were stale bread rolls, watermelon juice that tasted of nothing, and little to no flavored breakfast meats such as the curled sausages. Besides that, everything else was fine. Overall, I was going to give 3 out of 5 Stars for my review. But after somewhat of an overwhelming compensation given with a free bottle of wine and an extra fruit plate, and professional (although disorganized) and friendly staff. I have come to the decision to give 4 Stars. I would go Hangzhou and stay at InterContinental again, on the condition that there would be renovations specifically in the rooms where parts of it were found inconvenient. Furthermore, I think that the booking system for the IHG APP needs some adjustments so that single multi-room bookings, wouldnt be broken into multiple single room bookings, in order to prevent check-in confusion.

    Needs a bit of updating...

Incredible from the outside, the golden ball is an impressive structure. The main inside area was lovely, a grand space where you can't help but look up! Staff were all welcoming and helpful, especially in the bar where they make a good cup of coffee! The room however was slightly dated and in need of modernising to make it a 5* in comparison to other hotels of this standard. The view out was undeniably impressive, but the label right in the centre about window cleaning seemed oddly placed! I would return to this hotel potentially, but there are others close by which have a higher standard of room for a similar price.
