Small owner / management tweaks will go a long way.

The resort has a lot going for it due to the beautiful prime hill top location offering scenic views of the Batu valley below. It's peacefully quiet; all the elements are there for a relaxing stay, including attentive and friendly room staff, ground staff, restaurant staff and shuttle driver. Our shuttle driver, Sutristiono, was especially nice and super patient as we had my 86 year old mother who has limited mobility and balance. The gardens were colorful and lush, well kept with a lot of different color bougainvillea and other tropical plants. The restaurant is new and modern, the food, both in the buffet breakfast and off the menu were tasty, offering a good variety of fresh local dishes. We booked a 3 bedroom hill top villa which is more like a rustic cottage for 2 nights at the start of August 201 for 5 people. The cottage is quite spacious with plenty of room. The beds were comfortable and it was neat and tidy. The cottages were wooden and old, but in a charming rustic way and not in an objectionable way. They didn't have air conditioning, but due to the elevation, AC wasn't really necessary. Our average nightly rate worked out to 3.5 million Indonesian rupiah for the 3 bedroom villas on the upper level. This is about $245 US dollars, or $326 Canadian dollars, or about 220 Euros. For Indonesia or even most of Asia, this is a huge princely sum. For comparison purposes we stayed at premium five star hotels that were modern and fully serviced for considerably less and they were in much bigger cities than Batu. It's a real shame the owner(s) or management don't sink in a bit of TLC into the property to make a better guest experience, especially for the prices charged. It really wouldn't take much of an investment and just some minor tweaks. Perhaps tweak the employees responsibilities a bit better, who for the most part; are already doing a pretty good job. Examples of improvements that can be done are: replace bathroom mirrors whose reflective coating have long flaked off, enough cutlery and glasses for the potential amount of guests and maybe a bit more. Dirty, grubby light switches that haven't been wiped down for a long time, paving stones that have sunk and are a tripping hazard, replace the pool decking, most of it is split, bouncy soft and rotted, doors that are adjusted and trimmed properly so they open and close smoothly, new deeper padded seat cushions to replace the thin hard seat cushions in other wise good quality tropical hardwood furniture. The pool near the restaurant appeared somewhat cloudy and under chlorinated. I hesitated to swim in it. Small tweaks like these would really go a long way towards a more positive guest experience. Front desk staff could be a bit more welcoming. During my interactions there, they don't seem to be as empowered as they should be to make decisions on their own and deal directly with guest issues. I get the feeling they rather want to be elsewhere. Example, an incorrect wifi code was given out and they implied that I'm a luddite, doing something wrong, when the password was totally incorrect. ( Yes, I'm pretty sure I can read and type out 10 characters into a single field properly) There were some nice welcoming touches from staff that tried, but in the end it wasn't enough to overcome the negatives, and the resort really falls short on delivering, especially for the amount of money charged. If you love NOISE this is the place

Booked a room and traveled 7 hours to get there. We were placed by the activity field. I asked for a room change to not be near the activity field, and was told there would be no activities. Woke 6:45 to blaring PA system and people screaming yelling laughing and dancing. Then construction started at 7:30. Brick cutting on two sides of the room, screaming saws and pounding. We came here for a retreat. Went to the office to check out immediately they would not refund the night. It so simple to disclose these things to guests checking in. They did not. They did offer different room but they should of done at checkin The staff was very nice - great staff, but the hotel policy is not good. This is a place if you have a large group and love noise. The decor and decorations and lighting in the rooms is also very poor. Could be made more comfortable with a bit of effort. This is not diva stuff on my end, its just simple basics....

Thank you for such great stay here. thanks to all Jambu Luwuk team. It's was nice stay. Newly renovated rooms. Special thank to Pak Agil, thank you for organizing our stay. Nice view, Very comfortable bed I'd like to suggest for improvement of breakfast. Better to offer customers to select their own choice of foods for breakfast. Hope to comeback again
