    Met our needs

We were a big group of 25. We were on a school trip with 21 junior high students and 4 adults. This hostel did a good job of accommodating our needs for 3 nights. Its a close walk to the train station. The restrooms were clean and roomy. They usually only turn on the hot water at night from 6-11 pm but they turned on the hot water for us in the morning as well since we had so many people trying to shower and get ready. There is a nice hot bath in one of the shower rooms. Shampoo/Conditioner & Body Wash is provided in the shower rooms but it is not in English so I did not know which to use. But I brought my own toiletries. Towels & robes are provided. There are no hand towels or wash cloths. There is a washer/dryer that you pay to do your laundry. There is free wi fi in the lobby. There is a hall with rooms with 2 bunk beds in each room. The other rooms were tatami style. The sleeping pads were not very soft but I doubled up. The blankets and pillows were fine. There is a kitchen where you can cook and store food in the refrigerator. There is NO toaster which was a disappointment because we would have liked to make toast for breakfast. The kitchen is a bit old which gives it a "dirty" look. There are plenty of dishes. There was a book fair going on at the times of our stay. This was good & bad as we were able to buy some discounted books however, there were boxes and shelves and books everywhere in the lobby and down the halls. It was hard for our large group to get around. There was an extra "music" room that the students used to hang out in the evening to play cards. Its a hostel so accommodations are limited but it was convenient and I'm sure a good price for a large group of students.

    A real slice of life.

This is not real accomodation place per se, rather a community centre which rents out rooms of an evening. During the day and evening you will see locals coming in for piano lessons, language support, traditional music rehearsals, international friendship nights, ladies auxiliaries etc. The accommodation is spartan with larger tatami rooms for groups or families and very small berth like rooms with bunks. Two bath rooms, one with a shared bath which can make for interesting chat with a local. Kitchen has all you will need including a toaster. If you have some Japanese this could be an excellent opportunity to mix with some locals. Everyone was up for a chat and it is always wonderful to see the Japanese away from the Mr Donuts or work situation. The hostel is very close to the train which you will need as the local area not so great for food. You may have to clear out your room during the day as it may be used for an activity!! Fun.

    As expected

Interesting to see so many elderly people hanging around here, given that it's called the Student Youth Center. Clearly more of a community centre with a few rooms for rent. Nice staff, held a parking space for us when we went out at night. Some staff on the other hand almost seemed to ignore us when we stood at the front desk and called to them. Kitchen available for us, two separate ofuro/shower rooms, and male/female toilets. A bit more expensive than I would have hope though, same price as full hotels we stayed at in other cities.
