    Visiting for the fourth time

We go there once a year to enjoy the cozy atmosphere and the incredible nature of the Ardennes. This hotel is the best place for us since it is a family hotel, cozy, in a nice spot in Ardennes (close to frahan village and Bouillon). The outside area is very nice and good to have an afternoon coffee there. There is also an amazing Italian restaurant 10 min walking from the hotel.

    The horror mansion...

So... On a wednesday evening, we decided to spend the next long week-end in the Ardennes... We knew it would be quite hectic to find a hotel disposing of available rooms three days before departure and after numerous phone calls, we finally received confirmation there were several free rooms at the "Hostellerie de La Sapinière". Great, we thought! More, they proposed a promotional accommodation, consisting of the room + half-board for only 79 for 2! We should have felt there was a trap somewhere... But on the other side, we had not plenty of choice, so, here we go! We arrive on sunday afternoon in the beautiful Semois region (not far from Bouillon, Vresse-sur-Semois and Bohan) and go straight to the hotel, located at the end of the little village of Laforet. The hotel is an old traditional house built in the fifties in traditional regional stone. Other outbuildings have been added afterwards and the general style has become quite indefinable. It is surrounded by numerous firs (which is why it was given the name of "sapinière"). The first impression from the outside of the building is a patchwork of tables and solar tents pushed against the main entrance, flanked in a very small garden that never seems to have been cleaned since the man walked on the moon (even the garden dwarf cracked himself by spite). We then arrive at the reception. Same (no)style, same chaos, trinkets everywhere, an out-dated decoration, at least a relative cleanliness but a polar welcome. We are given our key and we are told that we have to be present at the restaurant between 7 and 7:30pm if we want to have dinner... The discovery of our room is a shock. Hideous and minimalist decoration, the bedding had to be used as a trampoline during the 1960 Olympics, the bathroom is obsolete. In short, we had never seen this since we were scouts, 30 years ago... Fortunately, it seemed relatively clean. Arriving at the restaurant at 7:10pm, we are asked to look for our roomnumber on the numerous tables by ourselves, to sit down and wait to be served (great, the hotel organises games to entertain its guests!). No card, the same 3-courses menu for everyone: mushroom soup, veal tenderloin with mustard sauce, tasteless cauliflower and fried potatoes. A part of apple pie finishes us, amen... I forgot... Is it really necessary to mention that everything we ate was not homecooked? I will finish here without even mentioning next morning's breakfast. I hope you understood that this hotel even doesn't deserve to be considered as such. Stranger, if you want to discover the beautiful Semois region and would you cross this hotel, go your way! While farmers breed cattle, this "hotel" breeds tourists...

    Vacancy

Our stay was pleasant. However, the hotel needs a lot of maintenance and for that it needs more personnel. the food is very very good. It is a pity that the entrance to the hotel is so lat 4u, because this way there are very large waiting lines and this is not pleasant. The rooms are comfortable, but it's a shame they have a rug on the floor,I would remove it, it can be ugly and it is not hygienic, needs a little more ventilation and order in all its spaces,It has many things that if they were well organized they would look very nice and it would be nice to sit in those spaces ....only has internet in the lobby not in the rooms

Good value hotel for family travellers

Our stay in La Sapiniere hotel was unexpected. We decided on Friday midnight to have a road trip to Ardennes the following day (which was Saturday) and we were looking for an affordable and available hotel. We came across La Sapiniere via Groupon, so we called first the hotel to asked for their availability, before buying the Groupon coupon. Fortunately, the hotel had availability. We paid 169 euros, and for this price which includes hotel stay for 3 nights, breakfasts, and two 3-course + one 4-course meals, we didn't expect much from the hotel. But to our surprise, we actually had a pleasant stay. The rooms are quite spacious especially for our family of four. The hotel looks good from the outside. They have nice play area outside and inside, so it is quite good for family with children. The breakfast are typical/basic: croissants, bread, ham, cheese, orange juice, coffee and tea. Still, we enjoyed every morning. But what struck me is that the pitcher they used for juice is made of plastic. It was contradicting to the ambience that the hotel is trying to portray - which is retro, classy mansion. The dinner every night also varies and comes in huge portions. The drinks though is not included and costs quite a bit. In terms of something to improve to the hotel: the interiors could be upgraded. Some facilities are quite old. It is also too dark in the room and in the hallways. The internet is not available in the room, only in the lobby and the restaurant downstairs. However, despite these downsides, we would still like to return to this hotel mainly due to the good value for price.

    Beautiful outside, out-dated inside

This was a very interesting weekend. The outside is beautiful and the hotel was very popular but the inside needs decluttering in terms of furnishing and service. All appeared very clean but is a mish mash collection of items, floral prints and dried flowers. Some inexpensive decluttering and refreshing of some items would immediately update the place Service was friendly although a little slow. Everything goes on your room number so costs are hidden until the end. It is pet friendly so dogs are everywhere. If you don't like eating with animals, this is not the place for you. Though many dog owners did appreciate that they could bring their pet pooch The food is a little school dinner or canteen style. Perfectly edible but not exactly great cuisine. Knowing now what to expect, we would return as it is a great base for the area. However, if I found an equivalent for the same price...
