  Our magical wedding in the beautiful Markree castle

  Well where do we even begin to thank Markree for making our wedding possible and for letting us have the most magical wedding which exceeded all expectations. When Covid first hit we thought come October we will be fine. We felt all along there was no way we could go from a guestlist of 300 to 100 never mind 50 or 25. When we heard it was 50 guests we instantly felt our venue wouldnt be suitable for a smaller wedding. We chose our initial venue because it was suited to big numbers. We had some very long conversations about what we should do. However, we were always so determined to go ahead because that was our date. Our hearts were always drawn to the beautiful Markree Castle but with our original numbers it was not possible. However, with the smaller numbers we contacted the amazing Deirdre, wedding coordinator from Markree Castle, and our date was free. It was nearly like it was meant to be. We instantly got our wedding excitement back. Our wedding was 24th October and I think it was August we changed venue. Planning our wedding became a chore before meeting Deirdre. She always managed to reassure us and reduce any anxiety. Deirdre was at the end of the phone or email in an instant after any news announcements or enforcement of more restrictions. Deirdre was so responsive to any emails and any query we had you could be sure the email was no length sent when you would hear the ping of a reply. We had the opportunity to have Sunday lunch before our wedding so we could taste some food. It most certainly did not disappoint. As Markree is an exclusive wedding venue and given the current pandemic we felt that ensured everyone's safety in that we knew exactly who was in the venue. On our wedding day we were blessed with some autumn sunshine so you can imagine how stunning the castle and the gardens looked. From the moment we stepped out of the wedding car we were greeted by the stunning staircase with Nicholas waiting to greet us with some bubbles.Markree made it feel like it was our home for the weekend and everyone felt so relaxed. It was like being in a bubble for the weekend. Everyone was in awe of the castle,my dad even took photos of the ceiling!! All the guests were delighted to be met with some hot whiskeys as it was a nippy day out and the appetisers were delicious. Myself and Brendan most definitely enjoyed a hot whiskey after being outside for photos but it was all worth it! Even though it was table service nobody was left without a drink in their hand. The most special part of the day was being able to have the speeches on the staircase,it was so intimate and special and we will never forget it. Following the speeches myself and Brendan were taken to the Billiard room where we could spend 30 minutes with one another, just us as husband and wife for the first time. The views from this room are just amazing and the evening sun was shining in. We were so grateful to have this time together. Then when the call came for dinner we were applauded by all the staff as we came down the stairs before entering the dining room. It looked exquisite with twinkly lights and the gold decor. We were blown away by the food,we could not fault it. Our guests are still raving about the beef! The wine was always flowing and there was no big gaps between courses,everything ran so smoothly. Markree also had the facilities to be able to show everyone video messages from all our family and friends who could not attend the wedding due to Covid. This was so special and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. We then ended the meal with a prosecco toast before going for our first dance. The staff were just fantastic with ensuring the day ran so smoothly. Special mention to Owen the bar man who went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a drink and nobody was left waiting and also I think the girls name is Kelly Parkes. We were blessed that the rain held off and we got to have our first dance in their courtyard under the twinkling lights and everyone surrounded us with sparklers. This was just breathtaking. We then all went back upstairs to dance the night away. The bridal suite is simply beautiful and is like a small apartment. Its so private and quiet. The showers are out of this world!! We also were greeted the next morning by the castle dog Roisín. She is just precious. We actually don't have enough words to thank Markree and all the staff at the castle. When our wedding was hanging in the balance Deirdre and her team took it on and gave us the most magical weekend and made our dream wedding come to life. Everyone has said we have set the bar so high for any future weddings. We really wouldn't change a thing. Even though our original vision of a wedding of 300 changed to a wedding of 25 it was so special and intimate and we had our nearest and dearest present. Everyone has said they felt safe all weekend and couldn't fault the service. We cannot wait to return for a relaxed night as husband and wife. We feel so proud to say we got married in Markree Castle,an absolute gem on our doorstep. X

  The BEST Wedding Venue in the North-West

  We had our dream wedding at the amazing Markree Castle back in September and I could not find fault with the whole experience. It's the most stunning castle - on the inside and outside - and it was the perfect backdrop for photos. We were lucky enough to have our ceremony outside in the gardens and it was so beautiful. I walked from the potting shed (this is a gorgeous apartment attached to the castle) to the top of the aisle on a red carpet and the finishing touches to the decor really made the whole setting magical. It felt like we were abroad! The food was top class. We had requests for vegan and vegetarian meals and nothing was too much for the chef. Everyone is still talking about how good the beef was! And OMG the desserts were out of this world!! I'm booking to go back for an evening meal over Christmas just to enjoy some of Lee's creations again. The day was so relaxed and the staff were so lovely and friendly. Deirdre and Nicholas were amazing to deal with. Deirdre was always on hand to answer my questions in the lead up to the day and on the day itself and she assured me everything was going to work out despite there being so much uncertainty around weddings. She was right and we had the best day of our lives. Thanks to everyone at Markree Castle. I could not recommend this dream castle enough! AMAZING venue, AMAZING value for money, AMAZING food, AMAZING staff and an all-round magical experience from start to finish. I wish we could do it all again!

  What a truly magical venue. If you are looking for a night of luxury, top class food and stunning walks you have to add Markree to your list. It is amazing. The team are so professional and so warm and welcoming.

  A truly magical wedding venue!!

  The whole team at Markree Castle including of course the wonderful Deirdre and Nicholas, could not have been more helpful in the lead up to the big day (including reorganizing due to Covid-19 restrictions), and on the day itself. The venue itself is like something out of a fairytale that is exclusively yours, with beautiful rooms for your guests, gorgeous grounds to explore and a beautiful area to have a relaxing morning getting ready. We even ended up with an extra bridesmaid, the gorgeous Roisin (an Irish wolfhound) who made sure our morning was filled with laughter and was not camera shy. Markree also have a chapel onsite that you can get married in that is not only beautiful, but it also means you dont even have to leave the venue for the wedding ceremony. All of our guests commented on how lovely all the team were, what excellent service they provided, the amazing food, rooms and venue. We cant thank the team enough for such a magical day and cant wait to go back to visit Markree. We could not be happier with our choice of wedding venue & wouldnt change a thing!

  Our Wedding Day - December 30th 2020

  We had our Wedding at the beautiful Markree Castle on the 30th December 2020 , and we could not find one fault with the whole experience. We will start off by mentioning Deirdre and Nicholas the wedding co-ordinators , who helped out on every aspect to make our Wedding Day the day and night it was , they were always on hand to answer any questions we had and helped us through every step of the way , planning a wedding from Hong Kong was made so much easier with their help and expertise , they are excellent at what they do and a pleasure to deal with . Onto Markree Castle....It's the most amazing castle with the most spectacular gardens and it was an incredible backdrop for all our photos. When we came through the gates the day of our wedding the gardens were frosted over and there was a mist on the river which made it all so much more spectacular. We were lucky enough to have our wedding at all , with the current Covid-19 restrictions and even though we had only a small gathering it really felt like the Castle was full with our guests at all times. The staff were so friendly and pleasant and a special mention to the bar man , he was excellent . The food was top class. We had requests from some our guests who were vegan and vegetarian and nothing was too much for the chef to do for them. Our guests were all saying how good their dinners were. The Guinness was also excellent, a rare thing at a wedding , but the men are still raving about how good their pints were. We could not recommend Markree Castle enough to anyone who will ever ask us. The venue, the food, the staff are all top class and when it is all tied in together its makes it the most amazing experience from beginning to end. A day we will never ever forget .
