    Delightful family run hotel.

We stayed here in November and loved this hotel. Staff could not have been more helpful. Parking is across the street. Great view of the small town and the pool area from our room. A wonderful place to wander and walk through. The restaurant was fantastic with great service, wine and food.

    Very relaxing stay

Stayed here for two nights in July - we booked a 'junior suite' which consisted of a lounge with sofa bed, separate double bedroom and bathroom with shower. We arrived at midnight, and one of the family members who run the hotel waited up for us to let us in (it's a small place with no 24 hour receptionist). The room was very nice, clean and characterful with amazing views over the valley. They had not provided a cot which we had asked for, although the next day they found one for us. They also locked up the front doors before I had got all my luggage in, but the keys were on the reception desk so this wasn't really a problem, although a bit inconvenient. The air conditioning was in the lounge area of the suite, which meant that it didn't really cool the bedroom down - and it was over 40 degrees in the day. Despite these annoyances, we really enjoyed the hotel. The staff were very friendly, the restaurant underneath was excellent, and the pool, although small, had amazing views. San Venanzo is tiny and there's not much to do apart from wander about and admire the views, but for a relaxing couple of days this was ideal. Beware the long drive from the A1 - it's a long, steep and typically twisty road as only the Italians can build. It's quicker to the E45 and Perugia though.

Slept on a box-spring; associated restaurant is good

The bed was so hard we felt like we were sleeping on a box-spring, not exactly the best rest after a 60 km bike ride through many hills. When we packed up, we discovered a drawer full of men's underclothing; not sure what that was about. Poor cleaning I guess. The restaurant associated with this hotel is quite good and the wine menu features many local vintages; try a Montefalco. Breakfast, included in the hotel cost, was average. But I think we were the only guests so they probably didn't want to put out a full spread. The staff was friendly. The location is good and quiet (San Venanzo is pretty small). There is a small swimming pool. No internet connection though.

    A very sensible choice

The place is located in San Venanzo - best reached by going through Marsciano i.e. using the E45 (turn off at the Valdechiana exit on the A1 when coming from the north and the Orte exit when coming from the south) - an unremarkable yet typical Umbrian country town. No tourist trap here, just regular folk pursuing their daily life. That in itself can be interesting, actually, if you have enough of the circus in all the touristy places. With 150 km from Rome, it is not suitable as a base for Rome excursions. Use it as an overnight stay cruising through Italy, or as a base for exploring places like Orvieto or Perugia. The hotel itself is more than just fine. Unassuming staff, very solid build, quiet, nice little outdoor pool, plenty of cozy feeling, lots of privacy in a charming antique-esque but not overstyled environment. Little things stand between this hotel and perfection: a hair here or there on the floor, curtains too thin to keep out the morning sun, no fly screen to keep away mozzies. Yet, basic cleanliness is very good, the bed stuff and towels impeccably clean. The breakfast was a bit boring, but also not really bad either. Not enough selection, sad little plastic cups for the juice, just rather average. But not bad. For the price I paid it was just fine.

    Clean and nice staff

This hotel is very clean and staff are very friendly. Our room had a very nice view. No wifi in this hotel.. We ate twice there in the evening and the food was really good but portions are small. We were very disapointed with the breakfast as there was no much choice on the table.
