    Beach Bar Onda

We were not staying in the hotel, but at the beach-bar "Onda" for many times. We had some snacks, beer and longdrinks. For Italian measures, the drinks are expencive (7 for a Cuba Libre), but you pay for the excellent ambiente directly on the sea. Sometimes, the staff was kind of overwhelmed with complex drinks or large orders. Some of them are not very friendly and do not speak english. Regarding that, it was a pleasure to meet Giovanna! She's a very friendly and professional bartender, makes wonderful drinks - always with a smile. Thanks to her, we had perfect hours at the beach bar.

Simple, basic, friendly with a lovely view!

We stayed here for 2 nights on a surprise birthday road-trip along the coasts of France and Italy. Albenga itself is nothing to write home about particularly but the old town is nice for a wander for a couple of hours. The hotel itself is on the outskirts of town, right on the beach. The hotel is simple and feels slightly like going back in time but we loved our stay and would go back if we were passing. It's not a 2 week destination type place for us, but it was perfect for a few nights as part of a wider trip and we were a bit sad to leave after only 2 days! Could have stayed another night. The room was simple, clean and big, with lots of space. The bed was big and very comfortable (very firm mattress) and we spent a lot of time on the balcony eating, drinking, enjoying the view which is what we loved the most - right on the beach staring at the sea. The old-fashioned stuff was having to pay for everything as extras that you'd normally get as part of your stay in most hotels we're used to - wifi is extra, the kitchen in your room is extra (once opened by electronic key-card you start paying a day rate), sun beds on the beach (decent ones, not the freebie deck-chairs they gave us at the back with no view other than the posh chairs at the front!), room cleaning, parking is limited and you have to pre-book and pay etc. etc. We're happy with self-catering and the kitchen had the basics but you'll need washing up liquid, salt, pepper, olive oil from the supermarket. Likewise ice is a problem, supermarkets don't sell it and the hotel doesn't have an ice-machine, so we had to find trays and make our own in the fridge that comes with the kitchen. You'll also need beach towels. Bathroom was simple and the shower good. Air con worked very well and was automatic at night. The beach was full of families, lots of which were not residents. Overall the place had a nice chilled vibe, although one night was horribly noisy with guys shouting and boozing into the early hours which wasn't great, especially as no one tried to quieten them down. Made for a poor night's sleep. The other thing to be aware of is that whilst the beach is one side of the hotel the train line is the other and it's unavoidable in terms of noise. That said, once we got over the surprise of hearing it (we live in a small village with no trains, planes or cars!) it wasn't too bad...just a shock if you're not expecting it. Breakfast was great (and included in our deal), big spread, help yourself., choice of sitting inside or out and the restaurant staff were super helpful and friendly. Overall we enjoyed our stay. Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure but for us it was a great escape from busy working lives for a few days, reminded us that life can be simpler!

    Do not go there!

We booked this residence thinking that it is simple but nice. The location of this residence is terrible. It lays in a very bad neighborhood. I've traveled a lot around the world and I´ve stayed in simple places. But here I would not want to walk alone at night. The train tracks are right next to it and you will definitely hear them loudly all around the clock. We arrived and were not welcomed very nicely neither by the location nor by the staff. Then we went to our room and let's put it like that the only nice thing was the sea view. The bathroom was very old and while my friend wanted to open the door of the shower he realized that it was not fixed and so he had the complete shower door in his hand. There was a strange smell and under the TV was a very dirty blanket with stains that looked like blood. The clothes horse was very rusty and you definitely can't put white clothes on this or any clothes in my opinion. There was a strange smell in the room and you had to pay 6 per day to use the kitchen in your own room! So even though we're used to hostels and all kind of places around the world we definitely couldn't stay here. So we decided to talk with the staff. They were not nice about it at all! They half shouted at us and definitely didn't want us to leave so they discussed with us for over half an hour. From the beginning we were ok to pay the deposit but they wanted us to pay the whole price. At the end after a lot of discussing we payed 50%. Even though we did not touch or use anything and didnt sleep there at all. THE PICTURES THAT YOU SEE ON THE INTERNET AND THE REVIEWS THAT GIVE GOOD POINTS ARE DEFINITELY NOT ACCURATE. I can advice you to keep looking and not go there it´s definitely not worth it.

    ok but...

There is good and bad points: Good: beach is close, nice view, room are equiped with climatisation and kitchen, most of the promess written on the booking website are maintain. Bed for our 4 years old was super big for him, beds overall are confortable. Bad: nothing is done with excellence: Wifi is very poor and complex to access, climatisation is not the easy one to manage, bed for the 1 year old is not fully adapted (limit dangerous as our kid fall on the side of the bed and struggle to breath and move). Then the food at the beach bar are not cooked but coming out of the froozen fridge to be prepare for services (and expensive for this kind of food (froozen pizza 8 euro vs 8 euro for a pizza prepare and cooked in the restaurant not far from the hotel) Breakfast were deliver around the the time we order and not always with what we request (minor changes no big issue on this one but when you have kids and need milk yagourt and getting a soja yagourt not appropriate for them...) We've book the babette restaurant of the hotel for diner the day of our arrival at the reception, get confirmation and when we arrrive for dinner it seems that they didn't know we were coming. The restaurant is expensive and, on my point of view, do not deserve such rating. it is good food but not ideal for familly, more for couple with some issue in terms of services. Finally, I'm used to pay some extra when necessay during my vacation but at that point I would have largely prefer to have include everything (or part of it) in the price during the booking of the room than to add extra for every things. Also to note that our arrival was catastrophique, our room was not ready on time and we have to wait long hours before getting in the room - I would have been alone or just with my wife it would have been ok but with 2 children after long hours of road - give at the start of our journey a very bad impression. We've received gesture for the delay and appreciate it.

    A nice relaxing short vacation.

Me and my husband Andrea stayed there for two night, last week. They gave us room n. 206 and we loved it! Lady at reception was very friendly and helpful: she also called us when we left the hotel for a tour in the magnificent Albenga centre to remind us the newest regulation about masks wearing in public areas... to avoid any fine. Breakfast was good and enough and the two waitresses there were very kind. Thank you. We will be back.
