Great place for a Weekend Getaway with FamilyI've been to Ruttger's Lodge several times with family and it is a great place to visit. Bay Lake is a very calm lake that isn't too far from Brainerd, or the Twin Cities, but is also far enough removed where you feel isolated. There are lots of amenities and always something to do on campus. I'd definitely recommend for people without cabins who want the weekend off up in Northern Minnesota. Fishing is decent, some good Bass and Pike.

Customer Service is fantastic!!My husband and I rented a studio cabin for 3 nights. The cabin was very clean, the sheets were soft and fresh (no scent), the towels were also soft and good quality. Toiletries as well as a coffee pot and coffee were provided. Staff was more than willing to run additional items to the cabin if needed. With covid-19, housekeeping did not enter the room to clean, but instead provided needed items and took away the trash that we left outside for them. The staff was very nice, very helpful and very friendly. That was the greatest selling point; everyone was working hard to provide good service. The only low point was the food. We didn't have meals included, but ate at the restaurant two nights. The walleye itself was a good quality, but it was bland both pan fried and broiled. The steak was very fatty. We tried the pizza and that was good. They have a coffee shop, souvenir shops, a bar and 3 restaurants. We would not hesitate to return here, but would re-evaluate eating here.

Nice fishing lodgeWe just spent a week here. We had planned on fishing everyday. However, I had a great deal of trouble getting in and out of the fishing boats. The boys on the dock were very helpful but it still was tricky. Also, the boat we had was a pull start and when we got out into the lake, it was difficult to get it going again. I think electric start boats would be so much easier for us older folks. So we fished only once but my hubby golfed a few times but only once at Ruttgers. The food was great. The service was wonderful. Martha, the manager of the restaurant, was more than accommodating and our two favorite servers were Maggie and Kristen. Everyone was warm and wanted to make sure we had a good time. Our one room condo unit was fine except for our view in the back was a hill on the golf course. So when we wanted to sit on the patio, we only saw a grass hill. We could have walked up the hill to the fire pit but that wasn't very convenient for us. We spent some time at the pool. It needs painted. The carpet in the main lodge dining area was very worn and dirty in spots. I think old hardwood floors would look great in there and really spruce it up. Also the chairs in the bar area need reupholstered..they are really worn. All in all it was a good trip and very relaxing.

Fun on bay lakeWe stayed for the first time at Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge. As you may know this has been one crazy year. We had worked with the reservations crew several times and they helped us book the right time. We normally arrive for our lake vacation when at most resorts the activities are done for the summer. So it was a pleasure to arrive the last week of august and be able to enjoy those. The pontoon rides were one of our favorites. We stayed in the bay lake villas which are very nice . The resort plan made it easy for us to plan what food to bring with . The resort food was great. We enjoyed the alecs 9 course . The entire staff was great!! We had such a good time we booked next years stay already. The resort did change ownership while we were there. Even so we may have found a new favorite. time will tell....

Fall Get AwayCan't say enough about how perfectly Ruttger's fit the bill for an ideal fall excursion. From clean and comfortable accommodations with a view, to the hospitality of the staff, to the AMAZING food on site at Ruby's I can't say enough. The beauty of the lodge and surrounding area makes this a place I definitely plan to return.
