  Better than expected

  Easy check in. Friendly staff. Room was extremely clean and very spacious. Large spa bath and sep shower. Very comfortable bed. Not easy walk into town. It is few km out. Definitely pick of places to stay. Join Rydges online for extra discount.

  toxic room, bad service, terrible management

  Was due to stay 21 days, stayed 8. Easy check in, friendly staff. Room at first glance was nice, big spa bath. Then noticed the rubbish between the spa and wall. Buffet breakfast was abysmal. had to ask for glasses (told to use takeaway coffee cups), then ask for coffee machine to be filled twice (first water, then coffee beans), no sugar, no spoons, cut fruit looked like it was left over from day before, watch staff handle bread with bare unwashed hands. Aircon in room constantly dripped onto bench and carpet, at one point staff came and used 3 buckets and towels to collect the water. Woodwork on bench was expanded, soft and delaminating (signs it had been damp for a while). Complained 3 times before they finally had a tech look at it, (althought they told me a tech HAD looked at it) who reported that it looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years. After 20 min in room I would develop a headache and tightness in my chest, which would clear up after being out of the room after an hour. The night staff said they couldn't move me to another room because that would mean an upgrade and my work had only paid for the room I was in so with no other option I had to stay in a room with an aircon that was dripping constantly from 4 places. My work made the decision based on my health and safety to move me to the much better serviced, cleaner and organised Plaza Hotel. I saw a GP to ensure my health concerns were noted. As a courtesy I met with the GM of the Rydges and followed with an email so he would have it in writing. He responded that he had been in hotel trade for 40 years (zero relevance to issue), good staff were hard to get, no one else had complained, they were always full and suggested I was making assumptions in how damp the room was. The GM responded in very broken english via email that they replaced the A/C unit the day I checked out, that he rented out 30 000 rooms per year and demanded to know the name of the GP I attended. I have now forwarded my concerns to the City of Kalgoorlie Health Services, my senior management and our corporate travel agency. the rydges used to be known as the best hotel in Kalgoorlie, however not so under current management.

  What happened to customer service??

  Arrived in the afternoon. Check in was extremely slow, waited about 20 minutes to be served and no apology for the wait. Had 2 garden suites booked but was placed in cheaper deluxe studio.. hotel staff just said sorry we are full and blamed the travel agent I booked with... 2 rooms booked that we requested be nearby.. we were placed opposite ends of the hotel. I called my travel agent who called the hotel and they admitted theyd stuffed up but were fully booked so didnt fix the issue. Just offered breakfast complimentary which was appreciated at the time but the brekkie was rubbish.. aircon in the room was leaking all night onto the carpet which was completely soaked, when I asked at reception about this they said its a common issue, No apology and no offer to try and fix it. went down to restaurant for dinner and stood for 5 minutes and got ignored by staff, I then asked for a table and they said oh sorry its shutdown we are full... youd think wed be told at check in the restaurant was booked for shutdown considering we were only staying 1 night.. no offer on room service or advising where else is good to go too. If you cant get basic service right then this hotel has no hope..

  Ok, but no staff

  This place was running on very little staff. Restaurant was closed because chef was off sick and they couldnt get anyone else. Pool grounds could be lovely but most plants/trees were dead, no one tending to the gardens. A hotel thats just been left and not looked after, such a shame. Spoke to carrie hotel f&b manager who was very apologetic and tried her very best to help. This place needs sorting out BIG time. RIDGES has a name to live up to.

  Some shortcomings easily overcome.

  We spent the weekend in Kalgoorlie followed by two days of business. Chose four days at Rydges because of location, pool, restaurant and room with a balcony opening onto a garden. We were moved from the first room as the air conditioner leaked water over the bench and carpet. Both the first and second rooms had no bedside lamps. The ceiling lights were full of dead insects.. The balcony was OK, but the garden outside our room was only bare dirt with a couple of dead plants. The most disappointing and inconvenient feature was the restaurant being closed on the weekend. There was just two sets of cutlery and crockery and no dish washing liquid or cloths.Only a single bar of soap in the bathroom. The room and bathroom were large and spotlessly clean - -apart from the insects in the lights.The bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfasts and the weekday evening meals were excellent. All members of staff were helpful and very friendly. We would stay at Rydges again but would at least confirm a better garden outlook bed lamps.and availability of the restaurant.
