  Not What We Expected

  This B&B was fair. Entrance to the place was on the side of the building. It was raining very hard the day we checked in. Rain water was gushing through the vine covered walkway and made it very difficult to enter the building without getting soaked. The room was fair. Could use some updating. Breakfast was all cold items, nothing hot except the coffee. My husband and I smoke. We asked if there was an area outside where we could smoke. No smoking on their property. The couple at the front desk told us we could walk down the street about 1 block and stand in the parking lot behind a bank or go about 2 blocks the other way to a park. It poured down rain the whole time we were there so that made it very inconvenient. They do not have a parking lot so you can only park down at the bank parking lot a block away. Will never stay here again.

  Cozy and Sweet

  I have spent lovely two nights at the San Anselmo Inn. Won't forget the family like atmosphere at breakfast when i felt like at my grandma's. Smell of coffee, fresh fruit, hot quiche, toasted bagel with salted butter. The quiet backyard and a slight breeze were highly enjoyable. Zero rush and null stress. A perfect start of any day in the San Fran area.

  Ok

  Its an old hotel. Some rooms are charming some are dark and old feeling. Its quaint and unique so if you like that style, Id recommend to check in early so you can switch rooms if needed. There are a few rooms on the lower level that allow easy access for seniors, and thats why weve recommended this hotel to our family members when they visit. But wed switch hotels for them if we found other local places to stay that are easy on seniors. Theres not much choice in this area, except perhaps the flurry of Airbnbs recently available. Book with caution. You can still enjoy yourself if you find the right room. The access to local restaurants, a lovely book store and several cafes is with walking distance through charming San Anselmo so the location is definitely a plus.

  1940s Amenities & 1900-1940 Ambiance

  Spent 2 days in room with 1940s hotel amenities: no microwave, no refrigerator, no ice. Building must have been built around 1920; stairway to most rooms very narrow and steep; no elevator so good luck with heavy bags. Visit was during pandemic shut down, which was excuse for no room maintenance. No bath soap (owner: "You have shampoo don't you?" - shampoo is not bath soap). Coffee machine provided with two packets of the most insipid coffee ever tasted (threw it out and went to McDonald's). Upholstered chair was filthy; window cracked. Expensive and not worth it for downtown location. Management (only reachable by phone) very slow to respond to questions (like completely ignoring first call). Save your money, avoid exasperation, stay elsewhere.

  A little inn tucked away in a little community

  The inn is an excellent find! I travel extensively and seek out boutique accomodations, the San Anselmo Inn is a gem. I will only stay with them when in the north bay and any overnight when using sfo, it's close enough. Adjacent dining at the Italian restaurant is some of the best I've ever had. Innkeepers are great people, before covid breakfast was excellent. Post covid their protocols are well thought out and it is the only hotel I feel safe and secure with complete confidence.
