    Good budget hotel

With a good wi fi and location, with taxis and buses available outside, and supermarkets around, its a very good bargain. The restaurant is nothing to shout at, but tolerable. Breakfast, as in many Chinese hotels are difficult to digest. Service was good and rooms are large enough. Hopefully, the hotel can provide better toiletries in the room.

    Average for an upstairs guest.

Great wifi connection, good customer services. Hotel surrounding are filled with local convenient stores, noodles stores, and souvenir stores. Easy to get a cab. Guilin cigarettes are sold in the hotel lobby. Breakfast is average, hotel room is fine just that there is a lack of lighting system in the room hence the hotel room would be dim during the night. Extra blanket is provided in-room. Clean and tidy and comfortable average bed that is rather wide. The provided head and body shampoo are rather "gluey" and hair would feel rougher than the usual shampoo I used. Best to bring a conditioner along. There is an In-room hair dryer but only functioning for not more than 10minutes. Would recommend friends to return.

    Need Improvement

We stayed here for 3 nights. The cleanliness of the room is good but the air-conditioning was very poor. We informed the reception but no action was taken. The ambience of the hotel is ok but very poor lighting. We stayed at the 4th floor and the walkway was always dark. Room service was prompt and well managed. As usual u cannot expect much for the breakfast. The same pau....

    Basic but ok

Generally a basic hotel located next to a government building. Big clean room with basic amenities. Stayed for 2 nights, bed is comforty. Breakfast selections really need improvement, coffee was diluted. Breakfast more catered to local taste buds. There were not enough utensils for breakfast.

Way Past its Prime but Nice View

The exterior of Ruiji Xishan Boutique Hotel gives a glimpse of its glory days. It is a big hotel surrounded by a primary school and government buildings. The hotel looks dated and may have changed management. The reason why I thought so is because the hotel seems like a luxury hotel but it was packaged as a boutique hotel with facilities, food and service not matching the facade of the hotel. Moreover, it is priced as low as US $28, a bit too low for a hotel with this grandeur. So perhaps it used to be a luxury hotel on its hey days. Nevertheless, I wanted to find out what is so boutique about this hotel and its pros and cons: Pros: 1. This is a big hotel. The lobby is wide and the corridors are also generous. The room is big for the price it offers. There are plenty of oriental paintings and decor in the rooms, corridor, dining area and lobby. The furniture and fitting looks new and underused. Lifts are slow but there are not many guests to compete with you too. During my stay, I saw mostly local tourists and corridors were deserted. So perhaps it is not filling to its maximum capacity. The heater works too. If you are looking for a good night rest for US $28, look no further than this hotel. 2. The window view is stunning. It is facing a huge karst cave that is a marvel to look at during day time. There is also a garden in the hotel that is eerily quiet but tranquil. So perhaps the garden is worth a visit if it is not winter. Lastly there is a small fountain at the lobby of the rectangular block. A nice view to see at night with ambient lights. 3. The area feels safe. It is located next to government building with tight security. It is also located on a main road so it is easy to find taxis. 4. Room service is affordable. Beer is 10 RMB and soft drinks 5 RMB. Snacks are also available at 10 RMB. 5. There are 2 gems at the shower area. First, this is one of the rare US $28 hotel to offer free bath robes (albeit thin) and second aromatic French Rosslyn branded artisan soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. If you are trying to convince yourself to this hotel, perhaps this is the deal breaker and the boutique perks it offer. Cons: 1. The breakfast is beyond terrible. The main course dishes have a local taste that foreigners cannot get used to. They are also either tasteless like the soup or too heavy in taste like the preserved vegetables. That leaves us with cold hardened cakes and bread with a slow toaster. The butter spread is also melting and sticks on the packaging when you try to open it. There is also cereal with milk or the pancakes as the only other possible options. You get dragon fruits, watermelons and small mandarin oranges too daily. The worst menu is the coffee and the orange juice. The lukewarm orange juice is tasteless diluted concentrated orange (not fresh juice). The coffee is diluted and tasteless. We saw how it was prepared. the attendant will pour the powder into a big baking pot and stir with hot water. Highly unappetising and understandably tasteless. The milk and tea is perhaps the only drinkable choices to consider. 2. The toilet floor is slippery. You need to be mindful when you walk out of the toilet. 3. There are no international TV channels. Only local channels are aired. 4. The wifi is free but really slow. 5. The hotel feels deserted. There won't any guests during my stay. Many a few bus loads of local tourists. Overall, I give this hotel an excellent review because it does the basics well for US $28. The scenery, room size, location, and shower facilities are worth that price for a good night sleep and nothing more.
