    Dirt and Deflection

Kudos to the ppl the Columbia Inn hired to do their website! Online the facility looks awesome, however the reality was dramatically different. Our room was filthy! There were numerous items, paper cereal bowl, candy, cheerios and a plastic cookie sleeve sticking out from under the leather couch in our room (we only noticed it because the cushions were so worn and flat we took a picture and when looking at the picture noticed the goodies). Our room had not been vacuumed prior to our arrival, our bathroom floor had chocolate on it (found it on the bottom of my sock and then saw where it was on the floor) which makes me believe the bathroom floor was never mopped. There was mold in the shower, the mirror above the sink had caked on dust and toothpaste splatter, the small refrigerator was dirty on the outside and the freezer portion was filled with frost to the point where you couldn't put anything inside it. In addition there were holes in the wall, the room was damp and humid, the smoke detector was missing from its holder on the ceiling, the paint on the ceiling was peeling, and there was no cord on the back of the tv in the sitting area...couldn't plug it in. I decided to address the owner in an email when I got home explaining how bad it was. I asked for nothing; not a refund, not a discount, not a free stay, just wanted to share so issues could be addressed. I had no intention of going public. Her response thanked me for contacting her privately. She apologized and advised she'd add it to their projects list and used COVID as a crutch. That showed me that she didn't understand the severity of the filth. Cleanliness doesn't belong on a "projects list", it needs to be applied daily for the comfort and safety of the guests. I found on this site where she has responded to Patricia S. and THEHAUGE13 with a quote I believe she took from my letter, but misquoted me and misunderstood the point. The quote she references is as follows "...Had you been less concerned with the mask patrol and more concerned with hospitality and had allowed our party to celebrate a dance (with music) on the your back deck after we returned from the wedding, you would have had us as customers for life..." makes it sound like we are mad that she didn't allow the bride and groom to dance, therefore we will never be returning customers. The actual quote from my letter is "Bed and Breakfast properties usually provide warm, charming and clean rooms with fantastic food, not humid, cluttered and dirty rooms. Although the constraints of COVID leave us in masks and without food, I believe if you put as much energy into the cleanliness and hospitality of your facility as you did patrolling mask wearing and who might want to play one song for their first dance, you may have been able to build a returning customer base." her attempt to again deflect and blame a non issue (one song played on an iphone for one dance) as opposed to the real issue, stays were unenjoyable due to the unacceptable conditions of the room. In my quote I refer to "without food". It is a bed and breakfast and food wasn't served due to COVID. That was made clear prior to check in and understood, however we paid full price...no price reduction for the food restriction. There are other items not mentioned here or in my letter to the owner...I just don't have the time. Just be aware that their site looks much better than it actually is.

Trip to see parents during Covid

Cynthia, Cheryl, David and the wonderful team at Peralynna provided my husband and I with a quaint, clean, hands free visit at the Columbia Inn at Peralynna. If you want a place to stay where masks are worn, rules are followed and cleanliness is paramount, then this is your home away from home. While the common areas, dining room and spa are closed in compliance with State Law, youre able to pay by phone, walk into to your room from the outside patio, use the outdoor areas and fall quietly to sleep on the nice comfortable beds. As far as things to do or see in the immediate vicinity, across the street is farm land, and down the street a childrens petting zoo and retro (1950s) play-land. Theres also an outdoor wine bar and highly rated restaurant walking distance, and a little further down, the farm has a fruit and vegetable stand and a large lake and park. Its hard to believe that all this land and ambience are so close to the hustle and bustle of 29 at 108. I cant wait to return in a couple of months to see my mom and dad, and then hopefully, soon than later, a visit where all the amenities are open. The Columbia Inn at Peralynna will now be my only choice when I return or recommend a nice place to stay in the area. Happy travels!

    Amazing home away from home!

Oh my! I cant even begin to say how amazing my stay was at Peralynna! Im in tears writing this! I stayed at The Columbia Inn for four months during the pandemic as a travel nurse. It really became my home away from home. Everyone was so helpful, caring and careful the entire time! I wanted a place to stay that was safe and had precautions in place and they did. All entrances were from the outside doors. I had to stay only in my room and of course because it is a pandemic, wear my mask and social distance. There was only a few times there were difficulties with that, where some parties felt the need to try and disobey the states rules and I felt like I couldnt sit out on my beautiful balcony or even go to my car because they were out without masks! But I am glad I stayed at a place that was so strict on the rules. I felt safe. That alone was enough for me to feel compelled to write this review but there is so, so much more! During those four months every time I needed something it was done. Cheryl, Cynthia and David became my family! During my stay, I stayed in three different rooms, all the rooms had comfortable beds, a tv, fridgie, microwave, large closets with robes and even a fireplace. Initially, I stayed in the X suite. It is in the front of the inn and is more hotel like in its set up but still adorned with beautiful Asian decor and linens, and it had my favorite: the jetted tub. After a few weeks, I moved to the K suite on the back of the Inn to have more privacy once the inn opened back up to other guests. I had my own entrance still on the back of the inn keeping with the covid precautions. And let me tell you! This room is like a castle suite, like a fairy tale. It is upstairs and has a beautiful cathedral ceiling and a balcony! It has a large sleigh bed, oversized chair and ottoman, vanity desk, dresser, fireplace and huge bathroom and walk in closet. Perfect for overnight guests for special occasions or long term guests! It didnt have much lighting my first night and I simply texted Cynthia and bam the next day they put up beautiful lighting along the entire backside of the building! My family stayed a few nights in the T suite when they visited. It is a very large room with two queen beds, a couch, table, large closets and the best part a walk in shower with bench. Perfect for a large family! I just cant say enough good things about this Inn, it felt like home and will always be my home away from home! Dont miss it, reserve it now!!!

    Website misleading

Cheryl was great about answering my questions over the phone. We drove up, prepared to book a staycation in two weeks. There were no grounds to walk around. The website does not reflect the small front driveway that circles by the front doors of the ground floor rooms. It may be a nice place to stay, but the reality was so disappointing after having seen the website that we decided to wait until construction finishes at the Lodges on the lake by Columbia Town Center. I am giving five stars because things worked out.

    Unnecessary disappointment in pandemic X.

My husband and I wanted to visit Ellicott City On Our Way North and decided to stay out of town in the Columbia Inn. Knowing that there were many restrictions because of the virus, we try to be understanding about the limitations here at the Inn. We knew that we had to stay in the one room that was assigned to us and not explore any other sections of what appears to be a beautiful B&B. When we booked in June of 2020 we paid $157 per night. When I try to cancel later that summer because of the pandemic. I was told I would not get a refund but a gift certificate for the amount of $314. Knowing the challenges of the B&B industry at this time, I understood and said that was fine. We rebooked to stay at the end in October 2020. Our confirmation did not say anything about breakfast one way or another. Prior to this, when we have stayed at other b&b's, we have received Box breakfast such as and including a hard-boiled egg, homemade pastry, homemade yogurt parfait and orange juice. Here we would were told we would get nothing. No reduction in lodging cost. When we called local restaurants that delivery, we were told that wasn't an option or if it was, food would take a long time to get there When I asked about getting some ice, the owner told me to go down to a local gas station and buy a bag. Other places where we stayed gave us a small bag of ice. Not even bottled water there My husband and I were so disgusted. That we checked out the next day without asking for a Refund or credit for the second night. Ironically, we stayed the next night at a Best Western that provided us a breakfast bag with a bottle of water, banana and granola bar, much more than we got at the Columbia Inn. We felt that our request for things like ice were an inconvenience. Other lodging has adapted and found ways to provide a positive guest experience but the Columbia did not.
