  Great hotel desk staff!!!!

  Kudos to the hotel desk staff especially to Emmy and the male personnel. Since there were no porters around, she smilingly helped me brought my bags to the elevator. We had an early checked out the following morning and upon checking out my things, I found out I left a certain item in my room, Reported it to the desk staff. and immediately one of the staff members rode on his motorcycle and retrieved what I forgot. Such a fast action! Too bad our group could not try out their hot spring facilities. We arrived late in the afternoon the previous day and weather was cool. Being senior citizens, we were afraid to catch cold. Want to visit it again!!!

  A Hidden Gem

  - the BEST spring water quality I've experienced anywhere. Silky smooth. - well developed hiking trails in a well preserved tropical forests. - loved the food they serve in their Chinese restaurant. - Family friendly. - not many international tourists, which makes it a hidden gem.

  Hard to find, nice resort

  The first thing to mention about Great Roots is that Taxi's from the airport seem to have difficulty finding it. I had directions in Chinese to hand over, and the taxi driver still missed it and got lost for 20 mins. Mountainous narrow roads, it was quite late and dark, and raining, but still, this place isn't exactly unknown. Suggest taking a printed out map in Chinese to avoid issues. I was there for a conference so please take that into account with my review. Only experienced the actual Spa in limited capacity. Waters were great and relaxing, there are private rooms for couples, and a bit of fun really. Rooms were spacious, they have group rooms which I was lucky enough to get, so had my choice of 5 beds all to myself. Well appointed, dual showers. all comfortable and clean. Restaurant facilities were very good, food excellent, no complaints from anyone in our group. There is a bistro for breakfast and lunch, as well as restaurant for dinners. Think there is a cafe somewhere as well. Hot springs etc., were lovely, though not much to add there. It is worth noting that I went for a walk into the forest one morning as there are a few trails to explore, however I was set upon by millions of big black mosquitoes so enter at your own risk. It is a jungle/forest and it was Summer. Other than that staff were very friendly and helpful, and I had an overall pleasant experience. I would not say it was anything too special though, maybe a bit above average, but I wouldn't say 5 star. Again, I had limited use of the Spa itself, which seemed lovely. There is a gym, but it's cardio machines only, and very small.

  Third Class Hotel

  We checked in tonight and right from the start it has not lived up to its price level. We were given a resort block room. The block has quite a funny setup. Patrons are required to walk to relatively steep path to the entrance. We were lucky to carry only one luggage box and checked in when the sun has set, despite a bit extra effort, we still managed to went up with not much effort. There are a few steps to enter the block at the entrance. Whilst we were struggled to carry our luggage, we saw an old man pulling a wheelchair for his wife. We tried our best to help so future patrons have to make sure that this is not a wheelchair place. On entering our room, we also ready sensed a strong humid smell. When we opened the wardrobe, we saw two cockroaches moving inside. Whilst I tried to get rid of them, they fled and hid into the narrow space at the back of the drawer. We called the reception and a young man quickly went up to inspect the room. He was very polite and efficient and decided to change our room for us. The following process was pretty nicely carried out despite it spent us a bit of time. With this price level, this is not the kind of service level a hotel should have. Although the service staff are quite courteous and efficient, the Management are quite poor in maintaining this, otherwise, a well located resort.

  Low altitude rainforest

  Hidden above Sanxia, this was a surprise gem that had beautiful views of the region and surprisingly strenuous trails. The first trail has mostly stone and/or concrete slabs to walk on with some railings. The second trail has dirt paths flattened by climbers and rocks to keep you from sliding as well as ropes to climb up and down. The third trail was partially blocked off so we couldn't climb it but it looked similar in terms of flattened dirt paths with rocks and ropes for climbing. The hot springs are relaxing pools with different temperatures and one has different types of massage jets.
