    Lovely stay

Me and partner have just returned home from our one night stay in the Patterdale Suite. We had a pleasant stay and ate out in San Pietro restaurant which was recommended by the staff from the hotel. All the staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. It was a peaceful stay and our favourite part was the Jacuzzi bath with the mood lighting and TV on the wall. There was limited TV channels which was a let down if you fancy watching a movie. The suite was clean although I feel new bedding (pillows, blankets) could be purchased due to a slight musty smell on them. (I do have a very sensitive nose) so this may not bother some people. Breakfast delivered to our room was lovely, wish we could of stayed longer to experience the Lake District some more.

    Some good, some very disappointing

There is no doubt that there were good parts to the Windermere suites. The staff were as helpful as they could be and very pleasant. The breakfast was plentiful and well cooked. The rooms were certainly larger than your average guest house rooms by a fair chalk. And there were lots of lovely coloured lights in the spa bath and shower which was fun and quirky. The room was very clean when we arrived, and towels were brought when requested nice and promptly, but the absence of any cleaning made it a little less pleasant as our trip went on. Especially having to eat in it each day. But I realise that is a CV restriction. Ok so I've never been to the Lake District. I didn't realise how commercial Windermere is, rammed with cars, queues, everywhere booked out for food etc, and endless people everywhere on the narrow pavements, waiting up to an hour to get in a cafe etc etc. Therefore for £240 a night, and labelled 5 star, I genuinely didn't expect a little guest house, rammed in a row of other guest houses, with no gardens, no bar, lounge or restaurant and tiny tight parking with just enough space for everyone if you breathed in and no more. This may be my mistake and lack of research. At that price and with phrases like 'butler serviced', I just pictured something very different. More of a country spa hotel.... not basically a guest house right on the main road but with bigger than average rooms and a polite lady who brought you breakfast (we carried our own cases to our rooms etc etc, not really 'Butler service...'). The exact phrasing on the website for our suite was '.... with stunning views'.... and 'Cute Juliette style balcony with full double opening doors perfect for taking in the stunning views over Windermere.....' Infact the view was the tiny car park and a transport repair yard behind it. Who crashed and banged from early Saturday and Monday mornings (as a transport yard would!). About a mile away or more in the absolute distance was one mountain you could see a little bit of. This was absolutely and completely misleading on the website (and price tag!) Everything worked, the smart tv was extremely complicated with no instructions but we worked it out via YouTube. It struggled when their WiFi struggled and wouldn't start up. The fuse box was held together with masking tape. There was one small exposed bar for clothes, no proper wardrobe, the spa bath was very difficult to empty as the plug release thread was a bit tired and worn, but one of the owners was very good about coming to help us with that we fully admit. All in all maybe we just went in with the wrong idea from the website and cost. There are plenty of good reviews on here so maybe they were happy to pay £240+ a night for a townlocked B&B. Maybe Windermere is hugely expensive and this is normal pricing and 5 star quality. I've never ever written a negative and I feel guilty doing it but it really wasn't as advertised as an overall experience, although the rooms were undoubtedly bigger than average and the breakfast was nice. Windermere Bowness-on-Windermere was pretty though when it eventually stopped raining and the huge crowds went home!!

    What a wonderful find!

On a long weekend to the Lakes for our Ruby Wedding Anniversary we had everything planned and sorted to be in Windermere on the 4th~6th October at a very expensive hotel in the town, only we didn't (!) but that is another story. What really matters is how wonderful Windermere Suites was. They took our immediate booking, sympathised with what we had experienced elsewhere, put us in a fantastic suite, provided incredible breakfasts and even secured us a table at a top restaurant for our celebration dinner. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left we were treated to the full 5* experience. Nothing, but nothing, could be faulted with the location, the suite, the breakfast and especially, very especially, the staff. Vicky and her team (Sarah-Jane and Jonathan whom we met) were just superb throughout and made our special weekend even more special. Sometimes fate takes a hand and makes things better than they would have been and that happened here. What a wonderful place to stay. Thank you all.

    Disappointing return visit

Stayed in the Cartmel Suite. Numerous problems in bathroom including shower not usable as falling off wall unable to adjust, door handle came off, all bathroom fittings loose including rail above bath. In main bedroom area french doors let water in, large puddle each morning . All problems notified to staff ASAP but unable to fix until after we left two days later due to parts being unavailable, only found this out when we enquired again if shower was going to be fixed. All in all bathroom needed overhaul which staff admitted had not been done for a long time as they had been so busy room was always occupied? Icing on the cake was staff member who checked us out virtually accusing us of breaking the shower ourselves saying it was perfect only a couple hours before our arrival even though it was clearly wear and tear and on its last legs, very unprofessional and rude. I couldnt wait to leave. A £50 discount was given due to the lack of shower facilities but would rather have had better service and a sincere apology. Such a shame as our previous visit was perfect.
