  In the Pink in Peschadoires

  Still in parts something of a work in progress we found this hotel to be different enough to be delightful, modern enough to be interesting and cheap enough to be a bargain, all topped off with a truly superb restaurant used by hotel clients and locals alike, and known as La Table d'Eliane. Our room, fitted with new windows, was clean, bright and comfortable, attractive décor (even down to the door handles) and nicely furnished using bright colours, with air-con, TV with BBC1 (but nothing else for the travelling Brit), an excellent modern bathroom/shower plus free Wi-Fi. And there's a large free car park just across the road from this easily identifiable pink palace. Minor quibbles - (1) no kettle-based room facilities, (2) no lift. To get to a second floor room with two heavy suitcases in your 60's is not a welcoming factor, and (3) why are beds made in such a way that you have to remake them before you can get in? Nearby Thiers is worth a visit although outside the old historical centre it's a bit of a dump. It's the knife making capital of France and every other shop seems to be a knife shop or knife sharpener. We toured round in Le Petite Train from which you can touch the walls of properties on both sides of some of the narrow two way streets. But don't misread the train signs. It implies there's an English commentary but you'll only get that if the majority of passengers are English. We felt cheated by the misleading signs. The knife theme continues in the hotel with knifes for sale, including world famous Sabatier ones, artfully displayed in glass cabinets in the reception area. All in all an attractive hotel that we'd be happy to visit again.

  Excellent hotel

  Very pleasant & helpful staff. Comfortable & clean room - nicely decorated & furnished. Excellent evening meal & breakfast. We have no complaints about this hotel & would recommend as a good overnight stop.

  Lovely hotel with good welcome

  We had a lovely room with our dogs...a delicious supper..the fish meal of the day which was cod beautifully cooked. The area was quiet and there were good walks for dogs. There is a car park opposite the hotel so parking is secure.

  One night stopover

  Nice bright refurbished modern room. Easy to find. Easy secure parking. Only reasons not five stars - memory foam type bed a bit too squishy and warm for my tastes, but also poor communication. We'd asked to eat there when we booked only to be told when we arrived that the restaurant wasnt open that night (Easter Monday). They did suggest a nearby restaurant which was very good.

  Eliotel - In The Pink (Don't get cut up about it!)

  Eliotel is in a suburb of Thiers, one of the traditional knife making centres of France and in the volcano (dormant) country. The pink-fronted hotel is in Peschadoires and is wonderfully situated, with ample guest parking. It is a quiet location. The rooms are very well appointed, with all facilities. There is a large, sheltered terrace at the rear of the building where we dined during the evening, the food was excellent and gluten-free requirements were not a problem for them. Buffet breakfast was very good and well-presented.
