Comfortable accommodationI stayed with friends for five nights. We were in a two bedroom apartment. It was roomy, clean and comfortable. It is in a great location, close to the city and tourist attractions. Thank you for your hospitality.

PREPARE TO PAY "A BOND"Booked online (special request) ground floor.Upon check-in we asked did they receive our special request, they denied they received our request until we showed our booking confirmation. After discussing the request, being informed there were no ground floor rooms available the woman at reception reluctantly gave us a ground floor room. These were apparently pricey to what we paid, maybe $50 more, referred to as a studio. We were not charged the extra BUT before we received "the key" we were asked to pay a BOND of $100 (our stay one night). This was NOT disclosed during the booking! We paid the "BOND" with questions BUT, if we had booked that studio a $200 BOND would be expected. Upon check-out, we handed over the key and asked to have our"BOND" returned. We were informed at that moment an inspection will be carried out before our "BOND" was returned. We were absolutely blindsided and livid. We WONT BE BACK! We have traveled extensively in Australia, this was our first experience with "A BOND"! As for the room substandard patched holes doors n walls, hairs on top of couch. Drunk locals wondering through the carpark(we used our luggage locks) to lock the gate next to the unit we occupied. Glenn n Rose

Couldnt fault itI stayed at Alatai for 2 weeks while on business in Darwin, and its got to be one of the most well-looked after budget properties Ive ever stayed in. The staff were warm, welcoming and understanding from day 1. Unfortunately Day 1 for me was being stuck in Katherine because my car broke down on my way to Darwin. I was delayed by a few days and because I arrived out of hours they left my key for me in a safe box so I could check in with no problems. The property is a bit dated, however the grounds are so well maintained (the pool looked very inviting, I am not a big swimmer so I didnt use it) and the room was immaculate. They encourage their guests (with signage) to look after the room and it shows that both guests and housekeeping and maintenance care for it. The kitchenette was stocked with cutlery and crockery, as well as a kettle, fridge, microwave and electric frypan. All was clean and in good condition. My bathroom also had a washing machine and dryer which I could use at no extra charge !!! Which was delightful. Unfortunately the room did not have an airing frame , so if you have garments that cant be tumble dried you need to find somewhere else to hang them around the room. The bed was heavenly. It was two single beds attached together (to be able to make a twin room presumably ) but they were large singles and the whole bed was at least a Queen size. It was so comfortable !! Sheets were changed once a week which was perfect for me. The reception staff were very nice and accommodating (I had to change my booking around a bit and also receive some mail and nothing was too much trouble). The only problem, which was not the propertys fault really, was that on some of the nights there were guests (and in some cases people who werent guests) making a lot of noise until late into the night. The property is a U shape with the pool in the middle, and any noise made echoes around and there isnt any sound proofing I dont think, so you hear everything. It was so disruptive on some nights. When I mentioned this to staff they were very understanding and apologetic. I would suggest they up their security perhaps, even installing a locking gate at the front to ensure non-guests cant trespass, and maybe some more strict rules on keeping quiet later in the evening. The property is so well located for all there is to see around town!! Only a 10 minute walk into the CBD and only a 10 minute walk down to Mindil Beach Markets. Woolies is a ~7 min walk away and there is also a Coles Express across the road. I would highly recommend Alatai for somewhere to stay in Darwin that wont break the bank.

A good budget optionLovely helpful staff and spacious, well equipped but outdated rooms. The review result reflects the value for money of this property, as its great if youre traveling on a budget. Its a short walk into town (10 mins or so).
