Spa needs closingHave stayed a few times as theres something about the hotel we like even if it is a bit dated. Location is great. The evening meal was in the conservatory rather than dining room this time and evening food was lovely as always. Staff in there and breakfast room are always great. However the lift didnt work so was a struggle up stairs with bags, I found it difficult in a morning using stairs as I am stiff with arthritis first thing. Tge TV didn't work which we had expected to be fixed by now as they were not working a month before when my mum stayed. Reception sent someone up, we then had a couple of channels, one was kids tv and one 24hr news. The kettle didnt always work, had to hold switch down. The worst was the spa. Yge jacuzzi yet again didnt work,was just a big tub of warm water surrounded by dirty black windows. The showers in changing rooms weren't working and ants were on the floor in there. The gym was empty of equipment, the steam room wasnt working,the pool area smelled damp due to the black mould all over the ceiling and walls. Had a quick swim and went back upstairs for a shower. While I know it's not a five star hotel and you get a good deal here I dont expect black mould to that degree. Maybe sell off the left side of the building and use the money to bring the main part back up to standard. Feedback forms were given in at Reception at the end of our stay.

One night stay for a gigClean, slightly tired decor but nothing really offputting. Roomkey wouldn't open the lock, but left it with their reception staff and the problem was put right without inconvenience. Good breakfast. As everywhere in Southport, parking is to be paid for. Convenient location.

Initially disappointed but customer service impressed in the endTurned up for a short break only to find the hotel closed due to coronavirus. Was disappointed that we hadn't been notified of this prior to our arrival. Wrote a negative review on here about the experience to try to stop same thing happening to anyone else. Which I have now deleted, in order to leave this review. We booked into another hotel for the break,and when we returned home we complained to the Royal Clifton, providing evidence of having to pay extra for the replacement hotel. Royal Clifton were kind enough to refund us the extra money that the replacement hotel had cost us. Was very impressed by this gesture of goodwill and hope to stay at the Royal Clifton when we next visit Southport

check with hotel before going.Still trying to get a cancelation number from a booking we did in July for our wedding anniversary when the hotel closed and we were not notified wasted trip. They don't answer the phone, don't return emails, several calls to the head office for the number and they cant get through. I'm informed that they are closed until Jan.

DevastatedWe were due to have a 10 year renewal of vows on the 25th February this year. We have been trying to contact them & spoken to best western who keep giving us the same email addresses that bounce back since last March. Paid a decent amount towards it and we have had no contact at all. I understand COVID has prevented a lot of events happening, but you would of thought the decency to contact booked events to rearrange/cancel; but nothing. We have lost our deposits not just on the hire of the venue, but everything else because we couldnt give them a date/ venue to rearrange too, so had to cancel them. Really upset about all of this & wouldnt use them or best western again.
