Clean, large rooms and close to the Nara attractions

To get to this hotel you need to take a bus from the Nara train station. To find the right bus requires some asking around especially if you can't read Japanese (you basically need the bus going to the Nara park with attractions, don't remember the exact number). Most people in Nara do not speak English but are very friendly and might spontaneously offer to help you find the right bus. The hotel only has rooms with (one or more) single beds. In addition it will close the front door somewhere around 10pm. You should be inside at that time otherwise you can't get in anymore!! Not all staff speaks English but some might be able to (a bit). Maps and tourist info available at the reception. There is a public bath with free entry. There is no elevator so all luggage need to be carried up the stairs. The rooms are clean and very large (!) for Japanese standards. Wearing shoes inside the room is not allowed, which personally I find a good thing. Slippers are provided to wear inside the room. Breakfast hours are limited but it is GREAT quality :-) Warm, Japanese style, very tasty, interesting and complete! They will try to provide something different every day (and they tried to explain the contents to us without speaking a word as they didn't speak English and we no Japanese :-) ). The breakfast makes the hotel special :-) From the hotel it's only a few minutes walking to the park where all the Nara sights are concentrated. Walking to the town center is about half an hour. Bus takes 10 minutes and stops in front of the hotel every few minutes. The hotel is all concentrated on relaxation and quietness. And it works :-) Sleep quality is good! Wifi is free but only available in the hotel-lobby. Things to improve would be to have at least some English speaking staff, some rooms with double beds, allow late arrivals, an elevator (for heavy luggage) and provide wifi also in the rooms.

    Good but restrictive

Hotel Wellness Asukaji is a fine hotel. Rooms are clean, location on the Nara park is fine and the personnel is friendly. It is annoying that the doors close at 23.00 h! When we asked whether we could join the dinner we were kept away from the dining room, which was filled with Japanese people because we had not made a reservation, which was obiously not necessary given the number of people in the dining room. This did not give us a good feeling on the whole.

Nice hotel just a few minutes walk from the top venues

Nice hotel just a few minutes walk from the top venues. Just get out of the building and in a few minutes you'll cross a lot of amazing deers, bring with you (or buy) some biscuits and they'll approach you like never before! The rooms are clean and very big: ~80euro for a 3 queen beds and bathroom room. Much more than what we needed. I really appreciated the available onsen, it's been my first japanese bathing experience! Suggested.

Nice place not far from the park

We had quite a nice spacious room here. Staff were nice and happy to help. The hotel isn't really central, but being right next to the south side of the park its a nice enough walk to the sights. The hotel is also right next to a bus stop, and was easy to get to on the main circular city bus route.

Nice hotel next to the State designated historic site"Zuto"

Very reasonable nice three story hotel with no elevator, in a quiet district, just 6 minutes ride by bus from Kintetsu Nara station. The hotel stands right next to a bus stop. Most of the tourist points are in a walking distance. The hotel building itself is old, but the rooms are clean, with a roof top terrace. They look after the state designated historic site Zuto(soil Pagoda) stands next to their Hotel, which look like a pyramid in Egypt. To enter the site, pay 300 yen at the hotel reception, and they will take you to the site. The single room seems not big, but twin and triple rooms are quite big. Require pre-booking to have a dinner or breakfast at the hotel restaurant.
