    Perfect countryside

Place for comfortable vacations. Everything was perfect. We spend 13 nights and that was relaxing time. First - hospitality of Filippo (speaking very good English) and his grandparents (speaking only Italian but there was no problem if you really try to understand somebody) was awesome. They helped with everything kindly, fast and in efficient way. The room was very spaciuos with large bathroom exactly like on photos. I think it was approx. 40sq meters. We felt like on rural vacation with family waking up with beautiful views from our window with morning mist far away on hills. The breakfast was simple every day almost the same but... we never had soooo goood and fresh food even in five star resorts. Food was delicious with aroma and flavour absolutely fantastic. Tomatoes and eggs from their own garden were the best on our live. We had a nice tour with Filippo to they vineyards and off course we tasted and bought some delicious wine and olive oil. This is a very good place almost central to visit all Tuscany around and of course very close beautiful San Gimignano which is almost out of tourist during late evenig and night. Highly recommended

Basic. Bare minimum. Average at best.

Everything about our stay here was very impersonal. And not because of the language barrier. Right from the beginning upon arrival, there were no signs of life, no clear direction where to go. Only after wed wandered too far and alerted the farm dogs did someone appear. Possibly the daughter of the owners? She spoke some English which was helpful and showed us to our room. The bed was more of a very large cot. No headboard, only a sort of futon like metal frame, so our pillows kept falling off. Though the mattress itself is quite soft and nice, the blankets have clearly been around a while. Behind the bed are curtains covering the very, very large window. Between the outside lights that shine until midnight and when the sun comes up, its very bright in there. And youll hear your neighbors coming and going as well, slamming doors in the common area. The bathroom is the worst part. The shower was more of a trickle. Shower head could use a good clean or replacing altogether. Low pressure, water intermittently gone freezing. Shower door handle broken. Folding accordion shower door with mold on it. No shower shelves to put things on. No bathroom hooks for towels, only a warming rack. Decent toiletries were offered, however. There was a small kitchen which was quite handy. Though also furnished with the bare minimum. There is a kettle. And the hot drink selection we were left was two packets of instant Nescafé. There is free internet though its spotty and didnt work at all upon our arrival. The woman did make some calls to fix it but the signal remained pretty weak during our entire stay and did not extend outside even to the sitting area outside of the room. The breakfast is quite early (until 9:30am) and served in the owners dining room upstairs. They speak no English so we were just sat at the table and left to it, they closed the door and went about their business. Breakfast was standard cakes and pastries, stale bread, homemade salami and prosciutto, no fruit or yogurt. There are loads of chickens outside yet no eggs to speak of. Though they do serve great coffee. We didnt even bother with breakfast the second day. Checkout is also very early, by 10/10:30am, and clunky as well. No idea where to go or who to speak to. We knocked on the owners door and their son maybe? came to help us. Brought us downstairs into a different room and we were able to pay mostly by card but asked to pay the tax in cash. The location is decent though we had a car. The b&b free parking is very easy and close to the rooms. There is a back road you can use to get to town on foot. About two thirds of the trip to town is off the main roads but its all uphill and takes about 20 minutes, maybe a half hour to walk. Its worth it not to have to deal with the crowds and parking in town. And it is an absolutely lovely town. But the vineyard you think youre staying in is actually a mile down the road. This is just a farm with three guest rooms located under the owners main house. And you cannot see the town from it. I would not choose to stay on this farm again.

    Review of the wine tasting

This is not a review of the hotel but a review of the wine tasting. We did 'When wine meets food' and it was amazing! The food was fresh off the farm and delicious - the wine even more so. Phillipo was a wonderful host and was very accommodating. Highly recommend if you are in or near San Gimignano.
