    Honeymoon

What a fantastic hotel. Me and my wife stayed for 9 days and absolutely loved the place. The hotel and village are traditional Italy in its finest. Franca and her staff were brilliant and we cannot put into words how welcome they made us feel. The food is second to non and the views are incredible and its a nice quiet village in the middle of the countryside. Still relatively close to beautiful places like Turin, Alba, and Asti. If you have the chance make sure you stay here.

Beautiful, location, beautiful view, shame about the rest.

As the highest of the hilltop towns in this part of the Monferrato region, Cocconato is a beautiful little town n a splendid location. I stayed in this hotel during the "CocoWine" weekend in early September as part of a business trip to assess the suitability of the town as a centre for an Italian language summer school for students and admirers of Italian culture. The hotel is in an ancient building at the very heart of the hilltop community. Its labyrinthine interior structure for once worked against it. It was like Fort Boyard without the lycra. I was to discover that it and the town in general was lacking only in "vita" which is a shame as it is in Italy, which is otherwise famous for it I arrived in the afternoon after a long voyage having worked in Ireland the previous evening. I'd upgraded to a junior suite, alas, the room was not ready. No bathrobe, no kettle, you get the picture? This despite being the only guest in the hotel in a room in the crow's nest, above domestic living quarters of the hotel manager, a lady who dressed permanently in black. Other "staff" were all junior relatives. The restaurant closed when I arrived and never re-opened. This would not have been bad but for the fact that there were few, mostly over-priced alternatives (the idea of Tiramisu in the local pizzeria was more like a biscuit!). Wifi was awful and the TV package was the most basic. Breakfast was ample and the scrambled egg excellent. Coffee unfortunately let the parade down. In Italy this is known as an "autogol" in a low scoring match. To cap it all, the "suite" was noisy and the manager managed to not give me back my passport until I had returned from Asti (twenty-five miles away) on my out-bound journey. I got a later train to Turin thanking my lucky stars I had decided to leave a day early to visit Turin's many museums. As a result and as you can imagine, that was a non-starter. All in all therefore, it was far from the pleasant stay it could have been had there been a real commitment to hospitality and customer service in evidence. Cocconato has some way to go in tourism development which is a great shame as I have long-standing ties with the town. La Locanda Martelletti, which has all the features of a fine establishment, should be leading the way, not bringing up the rear. During my visits in the town, what came loudly across was that, save for the "Bar Roma", nobody really cared. This and the cold sense of schadenfreude which pervaded the town surprised me. Bring back the Dolce Vita, all is forgiven and for a town as beautifully located as Cocconato a pot of gold awaits.

Very calm situation with a view

Calm location in a quiet village. The manager is a friendly person who takes time to bring you to your room, introduce you to the hotel. Not the usual hotel building with beautiful large rooms, corridors.
