Now the Grand Hotel d'OasisWe stayed here for one night on a tour of Tunisia, a generally pleasant experience. The reception area is charming, furnished in beige and cream with great natural light. There's a pleasant pool area. The bedrooms are nothing special but perfectly acceptable. I ordered an extra pillow and it arrived promptly. We didn't have dinner here, but breakfast was fine.

It was ok but could be so much better with a little effortWe stayed two nights in the Yadis, now called the Grand Oasis. On the whole it was fine but the management need to rethink their attitude towards customers. I think that their business is based on through put not repeat business and as such they make little effort with the guests. The impression you get is that they have your custom now, don't expect to see you again and therefore any complaints or requests fall on deaf ears. Our room was unbearably hot at night, as I assume most other rooms in our block were as they face the sun all day and from other guests asking about the AC at the desk. I put the air conditioning on during the night and it blew out warm air, when I asked about this in the morning the reply was we don't put it on in this season no matter how hot it is. We weren't the only guests complaining of the heat, I can understand the hotel wanting to save on costs but they could set it to at least blow the cool night air in. There are no mosquito screens on the windows so leaveing the glass open just lets them all in and they do bite, we ended up rigging our mosi net up on the wooden screen doors which at least made it cool enough to sleep the second night. We had one eveing meal there, which was fine but it is a buffet style and when its gone its tough, no matter if there are still two hours to go, so just make sure you are there early and take what you want for the entire meal to start with, if getting what you want bothers you! The breakfast however was poor, apart for croissants and boiled eggs it all seemed to be recycled from the evening meal leftovers, the salad was dried up, stale and covered in flies, another problem the hotel does little to solve, a few electronic sappers would at least cut the swarms down a bit. The rooms, bedding and towels were clean and there was plenty of hot water but the shower head did not attach to the wall, as has been the case with all but one of the many hotels we have stayed in Tunisia, so you have to hold the shower head all the time whilst you shower, again a small and inexpensive thing to fix to make the guests' stay more comfortable. I'm not sure if the Yadis group is struggling or if this hotel is still part of the chain but they seemed to be trying to cut corners and save on expense in all sorts of silly and annoying ways. We are travelling for four months, with a month in Tunisia and on the whole stay in cheaper accommodation but every now and then book ourselves, via the internet as you save on the turn up rack rates, into somewhere supposedly better and that has wifi connection (another small niggle, it said on the hotel booking site that wifi was throughout the hotel, but it isn't, just in the smoke filled reception area, which when you have hundreds of photos and text to upload is a pain, especially when you were expecting to be able to do this from the comfort of you room.) Anyway for the money, and compared to similar priced and stared hotels, I think this hotel falls short and was disappointing, especially since our previous hotel, which was a fifth of the price was more comfortable. However the hotel's position is good, just away from the tacky tourist souvenir street and the zone touristique and all that brings, as well as being very near to the old quarter (a visit to the museum here is a must if you go) and one of the entrances to the palmerie. As well as this it does have a couple of pools which looked nice. The hotel is used by tour groups on the whole and they swarm in and out on mass during the day and evening.
