Great & Safe Location, Clean rooms, accessible and value for money

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and our experience here was very pleasant. Adam at the reception was very helpful and kind in guiding us in our travel and giving us a few tips on places to eat. We had got a ground floor room which was a bit noisy at times since it was just at the entrance and next to the reception. However, this was not of major concern. The rooms were in good condition and it was a complete value for money which also included breakfast. The wifi in the room worked perfectly fine. We also had booked a return airport transfer which was completely hassle free. Overall very good experience at this place.

    Great price at great location!

Me and my boyfriend ended up staying here on our motorcycle trip through Europe and it turned out great. First, we had booked a room with another hotel (very close by) and when we got there the lady in at the desk offered to upgrade us to their 'sisterhotel' for no extra charge. She said the hotels belonged to the same group of hotels and they had bigger and nicer rooms. When we got to Sultans Hotel it was indeed a bigger hotel and the reception area looked much nicer. Sultan's hotel did not have parking so we could park outside the hotel we had originally booked (street parking is surprisingly safe and there were several places for bikes to fit into). Room: Great big room with plenty of space. The mini-fridge has cold water and there was a brand new kettle to make ourselves coffee and tee etc. Bed was large and very comfortable and the balcony was big enough for us to sit and eat. The bathroom was great with plenty of space for everything you need. Location: Walking distance to most tourist sites in the middle of the city! Istanbul is not a place where you want to travel around alot. The hectic traffic can add hours to any distance travelled within the city and, even though we had a motorcycle, it took is for ever to get around. Staying at a walkable distance is highly recommended. Staff: All staff members were excellent and spoke good English. There seemed to be a large variety of younger men working the reception and everyone was very professional and polite. The housekeeping staff didn't speak English but was very good. Everything was spotless and they managed to clean our room to perfection every day in spite of all our dirty motorbike gear and luggage. Look out for: There is a taxi hub right next door and a lot of the drivers tried to offer me rides when I walked by myself, never when it was the two of us. The restaurant on the corner (and the ones on the main street) thrive on tourists and it is not uncommon for waiters to constantly try to offer things (such as wine or bread with your meal) that later turns out to be more expensive than expected. Be wary of places where a guy is standing outside offering you things just to get you inside. There are a number of restaurants two-three blocks away that do not do this and they also serve excellent food at often lower prices. Tips: Found an excellent hamam (turkish bath) about two blocks away from the hotel. It was in the middle of the tourist area so first I thought it would be expensive but it turned out they only charged 100 lira for 1.5h of hamam and massage (which was awesome!). We would definitely stay here again on our next trip!

Sultan's Hotel is near all the sights, yet in a non-touristy neighborhood

A ten minute walk down towards the sea from the hectic center of Sultanahmet's attractions, the Sultan was a memorable location for us a year ago. The neighborhood is untouristy, quiet, charming, centered round a quiet park. The rooms are clean, fresh, comfortable. Right around the corner is a fine breakfast place. The kebab place and juice place just up the street make other meals a snap. Prices have gone upo since opur bargain rate of under $30 a year ago, but it's still a good deal.

    Sultans Hotel, Sultanahmet.

The Sultans Hotel is located in a neighbourhood with a mix of small budget hotels and local small businesses. The location makes for a sense of being a tourist but not in an entirely touristic area. The hotel itself is typical budget accommodation. The rooms have an ensuite off the single room. The rooms are cramped and do not encourage the thought of resting a day inside. Provided amenities make a technical appearance, the fridge was tiny and could hold 8 small bottles of water. The safe in the wardrobe was key locked and shoe box in size, it was not secured to any surface. The hotel is multi-storey and in common to the area has no elevator. This may be a consideration for those who would struggle with narrow stairs while hauling luggage. For those choosing to maximise their accommodation budget it should be noted that the hotel does not serve breakfast. Similar priced hotels in the area do provide breakfast. Across from the hotel is Kadirga Park, which has a fountain in the centre surrounded by bench seating for the public to rest. Locals and tourists enjoy this site at the end of their day. The park also has a police station on one corner and a local restaurant on another corner. The restaurant does not serve alcohol but serves inexpensive local meals from 0800 to late depending upon the number of customers. A Turkish breakfast can be had for 25tl including a juice. From the hotel the Blue Mosque plaza is a ten minute walk. The walk can be a challenge as in cases the sidewalk is only 40cm wide and in other places is wider but blocked by vendors wares. This obliges the pedestrian to share the road with vehicular traffic. Consider this part of the adventure. Overall the Sultans Hotel is an unremarkable offering. It could easily increase its standing through simple means. Securing the small room safe so it cannot be simply carried away is an example of the lip service it pays to customer expectations. Adding a simple inexpensive breakfast to the standard offering would bring it more into line with its competitors. At the Sultans Hotel price point it offers adequate value for money for those busy tourists. It is not a place to lounge after a busy and tiring day. However the park across the road offers a free and pleasant option. The writer stayed there in June 2019.
