  Magical surrounding. Superb service!

  We stayed at the hotel just before New Year and were very happy with our choice! Our room was nicely decorated, minimalist style - no clatter to collect the dust and we loved it. The room was overlooking the road, but the noise was minimal, due to a very good insulation of windows. Bed comfortable and very clean sheets. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The radiators were hot and it was comforting coming back in a room after long walks in nearby woods that surround hotel. This is a superb place to stay if you would like to explore the area (Harz mountains), as everything is withing close proximity (no more than 15 km away) and yet coming back to the hotel there are many more things to explore or relax ( Little Castle with its terraced garden and baroque pleasure garden, pheasants or a stroll in a woods). This land is the birthplace of many famous fairy tales and witches - and it is magical to walk the woods of Hansel and Gretel, Show White, Red Riding Hood... The food was delicious, fresh and staff went an extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. From our experience, in Germany, generally, in the hotels staff rarely speak English. Here, at Schlosshotel, most of them did, which made our stay much more comfortable. We would definitely recommend it and hope to be back again in a summer!

  Historical hotel in the middle of the Harz

  This was our second stay in 2 years and I must say the hotel has gone from good to very good in our estimate. Our room was outfitted with all the amenities to make our stay as pleasant as possible: comfortable bed and high quality beddings, lots of space, built-in safe, mini-fridge, body/hair wash etc. The rooms now have a larger flatscreen TV. The breakfast buffet was sumptious - eggs, bacon, regionally-sourced pates and sausages, cereals and granola, fruits and all lots of other good stuff, but what boosted the standard was delicious homemade jams made by various members of the staff (with their names placed next to the little pots). Absolutely marvelous! Also to be recommended is dinner - high cuisine and at a great deal when you order the 2- or 3-course menu. The staff both at reception and in the restaurant is attentive and welcoming. I can't think of anything I didn't like and will be coming back!

  Terrible service, loud wedding party

  Terrible, terrible service. Nobody will warn you, if there are wedding party, who are very loud. Receptionists are very unfriendly and do not offer any solutions. If you're not a part of the wedding party, you're treated a 2nd class guest. Just horrible.

  Short vacation

  All in all a exciting vacation in Harz. Good location, a modern hotel in an old restored building giving a feeling of medieval age. Breakfast average, staff very polite and helpful. A number of historical places and natural hiking trails in the vicinity, worth visiting. Unfortunately no swimming pool.

  The Worst

  The hotel where they have treated me the worst in my life. the reception staff humiliates you, they make fun of you and when you present a complaint, nobody gives the face. Not an explanation, not an apology. Nothing, one month after. They humiliate you even more. I have more than 560 hotel and restaurant opinions from all over Europe in Tripadvisor, and they have never treated me so badly. I'll never return.
