  basic 2 star hotel

  Best thing was the buffet breakfast. The hotel itself is a bit sad in appearance, especially when you have a (small) single room. But for the price it is reasonable. From the outside the building looks much better than from the inside. Friendly people receive you. It's nothing special, but it's not bad either. City center 10 minutes walking.

  The people made my stay perfect

  The location is about a ten minute walk from the station over a cobbled sidewalk (think about a taxi if you have much luggage) and a fifteen minute walk to the historic centre. I was met by the owner at the reception and was given without any prompting a very thorough run down of all the sights and suggestions for city walks along with a map. As other reviewers have stated, the rooms were basic and could use a touch up. That being said, my single room, while small, had everything I needed. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had the basics. This is a budget hotel after all. The breakfast was as good as any I've had in some 4 star hotels. Lots of choice and the rolls were fresh and still warm. The lady who served the breakfast was super friendly and even let me use her laptop to catch up on my emails. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Her approach to making guests feel welcome could be a model for much more prestigious establishments. Gorlitz is a beautiful, small city full of painstakingly restored baroque buildings on the border to Poland. For history buffs, Gorlitz is the last small piece of the old Prussian province of Silesia which still belongs to Germany, and the local people are very proud of this fact, and make much of it. Because of the town's pristine state, it has become a popular place for making films. Around the corner from the hotel is one of the shooting locations for The Reader. For steam train fans, go to Zittau (40 minutes by local train, buy a day pass for the local transport system) and take the narrow gauge train up into the mountains. Tickets for the steam train can be bought on board. To meet some friendly locals and play some darts, check out Baumi's Eck pub just up the street from thehotel towards the station.

  Simple but Good Hotel

  I shared a 2 person room with a friend. We had a double bed, a sofa and a closet in the room, which we thought was quite big for the little furniture in it. The bathroom had a shower and was nice and clean. There was a good selection at breakfast and the hotel in general looked simple but well taken care of.

  Underwhelming, yet safe, comfortable, and authentic!

  We stumbled upon this option and never looked away. The photos led us to believe it was in a more populated area. The innkeeper spoke little to NO English but proved to be kind, welcoming, and very helpful. We struggled with check in after hours, we couldn't even get the key out of the box! A regular helped us and put us back in touch with the innkeeper who made a dinner recommendation. In any language, it was delicious! Next, our room for 4 was actually a room for 2. No problem! No elevator! Move on up to the 5th floor, we were given 2 rooms for the price of one. Still, NO English. The morning's breakfast spread was tasty and ample and checkout went smoothly. Parking was on the street, dimly lit and completely unsupervised. I would have never stayed in this hotel or environment at home, but we were served with such a genial spirit that we felt right at home. Showers are hot with a great psi, good tv reception, spacious rooms, and friendly hosts. Authentic and in need of repair, if you don't mind the stairs and an absence of modernity, kick back and enjoy!

  Cama muy mala

  A 10 minutos a pie de la estación de trenes esta pensión está ubicada en un inmueble construido hace más de cien años. Operada por sus propietarios la construcción fue bien renovada. La habitación que nos asignaron fue en el piso superior (de 3 pisos). No hay ascensor por lo que subir el equipaje fué dificultoso. La habitación era grande y tenia amplias ventanas a la calle por lo que era bastante ruidosa. Lamentablemente tenía una cama muy mala con colchón de espuma plástica que se hundía en el centro. También podría haber sido más atractiva si hubiese tenido alguna decoración y cuadros en los muros. El baño era pequeño pero apropiado. Todo limpio. La atención por parte del propietario y del personal del comedor fue muy buena. El desayuno alemán tipo buffet era apropiado y bastante completo pero no tan bueno como otros que tuvimos. En resumen, debido a que considero que en un hotel la cama es un factor esencial en la calidad de la estadía, mi evaluación de esta pensión es mala.
